LED question
    #838251 - 07/01/19 01:39 PM (4 years, 8 months ago)

#7 on this list..  https://www.thedailygardener.com/best-led-grow-lights

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DXT9162/ref=twister_B06XKPFF71?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

1800w / 2000w / 3000w units

I have a 6' wide x 8' length x 7.5' high room to use.. so I was looking at the 3000w unit to make sure I get coverage and canopy penetration.

Im wanting to do a single dwc with a scrog net like so.

never mind the dead plant, just a pic of my scrog net :hehehe:

or should I just pack this in there?

any thoughts and tips or advice is greatly appreciated.  :ganja:

If you just do one plant you won't use all of the space.  For your room, you could do two 4x4 sections with room to walk.

As far as lighting, the "3000w" unit only pulls 615 watts.  Honestly I would avoid every light on that list.  Quantum boards are where it's at.

If you can DIY a little, four QB 96 Elite v2's would cover each 4x4 nicely, but if you have enough cash six 96's would be better.  You could also build a light with eight 288 boards for better efficiency.

If I cant tell the difference between good and bad setups you really expect me to be able to build one?  :hehehe:

I diy but Ive never even looked at anything electronic.

I know how to solder but I havent a clue as to whats even involved in building a light.  :wow:

any guides or build teks around?

I have 2 1000w HPS right now so anything that uses less power with good PAR Im all for..  electric bills are too high with HPS..  :greenthumb:

:laugh2:  I looked at that QB96 thingy and that page might as well be written in japanese.

Im clueless.  :wow:

I really have zero knowledge of whats good or not when it comes to the specs of any of this stuff..  I know the higher the PAR and being able to control spectrum is what to look for and how many watts it uses but other than that Im in the dark.. dont even know where to begin I guess cus I really thought I found some good ones just to get told nope.. :smirk:

so I need (for DIY)

4x ~ https://horticulturelightinggroup.com/products/qb96-elite-v2-quantum-board-engine (each comes w/heatsink) $99 each = $396
1x ~ Anodized Slate 5 Aluminum Extrusion (i assume this is the frame that holds everything together?) $125
1x ~ Inventronics EUD-600 Driver  (the power supply?) $???
1x ~ 50 K ohm Potentiometer (dimmer capability?) $???
misc items ~ Power Cord, Wires, Wagos, M3 Screws (dont know what wagos are/is?) $???

am I missing anything for a complete build?  :hatsoff:

or just get this..  https://horticulturelightinggroup.com/collections/all/products/hlg-600h-kit-with-slate-5

I dont even know what a complete fixture looks like or needs to operate..  :wow:

The 600h rspec is a good light, though a DIY build with 8 rspec 288 boards would be better.  It would get you 1050 ppfd across a 4x4 at ~800 watts, whereas a setup with 6 96's would do the same at ~1000 watts.  That said, you only really need that intensity if you're running co2.

For a build with 4 96s, I'd recommend two HLG-320h-54a drivers, two lights per driver wired in parallel.  The frame should be built out of aluminum angle.  Wagos are just fancy wire nuts, highly recommended but not completely necessary.  A waterproof splice connector for the AC power cord is also recommended.

As for wire try to find 18 gauge solid core, sometimes sold as doorbell wire.  It's best to have enough so that you can run the drivers remotely.  With the A series meanwell drivers, the potentiometer is built in, under some rubber tabs on the driver itself.

Here's a link to the 96 elite no bs thread over at the city.  If you scroll through it a bit you'll find ppfd mappings and ideal layouts.

The LED Gardener blog has some guides, tools, and other resources, if you take the time to explore.  I'll be building a few lights with 6 QB96's each sometime over the next month, I should be able to help guide you through it once I'm done.
