I'm currently researching how to make the highest quality THC vape oil possible, with my available resources and capabilities. I've recently begun researching the basics for winterization, but articles/videos are more scarce than other subjects.
This is an overview of my knowledge:
1. Ethanol Bath
--Will use around a 20:1 ratio since I'm using rosin, and it will be a dirtier product
--Question: Can I bypass using micron bags during the pressing process since I'll be filtering later on?
2. Freeze The Solution and allow the "undesirables" to coagulate.
--Will allow 48 hours for coagulation to occur
3. Filter "Undesirables"
--Will use high quality coffee filters unless someone has a reason I should go another route
--Read that if the weight of the dregs is too heavy I can reprocess it by repeating these steps
--Question: Do I need to place the solution back in the freezer while it filters?
4. Purge Ethanol (I have minimal knowledge about this step)
--I found this video on how to make a Vacuum Chamber: (How To Make A Vacuum Chamber ) With the way the chamber is designed, I assume I can place it in a water bath heated by a hot plate. I will keep the bath below 150 degrees F. Will this suffice?
--As far as duration of the purge and desired pressure measure, I'm completely oblivious.
Sounds about right I clean BHO using iso in a similar way but personally I cant cope without a Buchner funnel to filter it through, it takes FOREVER relying on gravity to filter the liquid and often doesn't filter it all through with some remaining in the filter paper
Oh and to answer the question I missed..... Yes keep it cold as possible while filtering but if you do invest in a Buchner funnel it takes just a few seconds to filter so no real need to rechill it
