Supplying Backup Power?
    #803716 - 01/21/16 10:21 AM (8 years, 2 months ago)

Hey guys what's up. So with the number of storms rising here in the US the risk of power outages is becoming higher and higher and this obviously isn't good if you're growing weed. I'm not so worried about the lights, just the fans. If I'm in week 6 or whatever of flower and my fans shut off for more than 10 minutes my house is going to fucking REEK. If it were out for any extended period of time I'd have to cut them down.

I've looked into battery backups but they only last for a few minutes. I saw there are solar powered power units you can buy, but those are pricey AF. A gas generator isn't really an option as they are loud and when there is no power things are quieter than usual.

Are there any other backup power options?? This is a real concern I've had lately and I don't want to be caught off guard if (when) this happens.

Get some deep cycle batteries and some panels and make one yourself.

I saw a new 1,500 watt solar panel kit on craigslist the other day for a grand. Almost bought it. Still thinking about it. Wonder how long those last when the power is out.

you could try a USP - uninterruptible power supply. They use them for computers so that you have a few minutes to shut down safely in an outage.

If your concerned about smell I'd check out a small ozone generator. Careful setting it up as its potentially hazardous to your lungs if you breath it in.

I dont understand what the problem with a gas generator is? If there is a power outage it wont be suspicious to have one running and if someone has a problem with the noise tough shit. That's what they're for...power outages...

You know it sounds like you need to isolate you grow room better. Just cause the power goes out yopu shouldn't have the entire house reeking. Most filters and ozone generators work on the air exiting the room threw the fans. Seal the room and have a few inlets that only let air flow threw them one way.
