Thoughts and Opinions Request: Passive Hydro w/ Lava Rocks 1g Fabric Pots
    #800518 - 12/05/15 05:36 PM (8 years, 4 months ago)

Saw Magash's Solo Cup grow with lava rocks.. Got me thinking about it as a medium.

I'm wondering if it would perform well in a 1 gallon fabric pots passive hydro system for SoG.

Thoughts and opinions?

So I'm researching the capillary action of lava rocks, perlite, hydroton, etc for a passive hydro SoG in 1 gallon fabric pots.

I have been coming up with a bunch of contradictory information. Ed Rosenthal says in his book Ask Ed that perlite has no capillary action. Reputable information indeed! However, a manufacturer website says otherwise. Does anyone have first hand experience with using perlite in a passive wicking hydro system? Will the capillary action of the pots be enough to stimulate the capillary action of perlite?

Same questions apply to lava rocks and hydroton.

Thanks for the consideration in advance.

I use hempy buckets with straight perlite.
Haven't had an issue.
