the seed that never popped

So I germed a thunderstruck seed, put it in some happy frog in a solo cup when the taproot was long enough and this seed just won't open. Never ran into this problem before. It just keeps growing and growing. This has been going on for about a week.

So the seed is above the soil, but the shell hasn't come off to expose the cotelydons?

Have you tried misting the shell to soften it up? You may need to do it a couple times or try and keep it wet in order for it to.

You know I've had it happen about 3 times in 30 years and those little motherfuckers won't shed the shell. Twice I left em alone and they got pretty fucked up and the last one I took the shell off by hand and it did fine. Careful though it's easy to fuck up the seedling. The leaves will look all like a white pea cause they won't be forming but withing two or three days in the light they will be fine.
Sometimes when the shell comes off there is a film that covers the seedling if you can get that off to it helps cause sometimes that is what is keeping the seed from shedding the shell in the first place.

:P I've had to take the shells off a couple different kinds of seeds, just let them soak up some water and maneuver them off with a steady hand and maybe some nice tweezers. Good luck!

Wow thats never happened to me before. Good thing we have veterans like Magash here on the Growery who can shed light on how to solve the issue. Best of luck and let us know how it turns out man! I'm interested to see what happens. You dont have a picture of what the leaves look like when you remove the shell by chance do you Magash?

Eh I tried taking the shell off with a razor blade but just ended up ripping it off. No big deal I still got one more bean left of that strain.

ahh thats a bummer and good thing u have a backup. I always save a couple when I order new strains because I would rather clone and have good backup seeds instead of sprouting all my beans at once
