So i grew some random seed last year, and the bud vastly exceeded my expectations. I am very proud. I sold an ounce of it for premium price and have kept the rest for my self. It really is a nice high. Not an 'out of this world', but really nice experience.
I did not use any pesticides ect. A completely organic natural grow. I don't smoke tobacco. I do smoke cannabis, i prefer to consume it when i can, however.
I have made tincture with 70% absinthe alcohol before (highest i can get where i live without importing) and it created really good shit.
I used the same procedure as i'd used in the past with my own bud, and surprisingly, the tincture turned out crap. Honestly, it was a waste of a good quality q. WTF.
I am/was very surprised. Are there any ideas on why this good bud didn't make great tincture?

tinctures are for larger amounts. i used a qp of premo for my last batch
you used 7 grams (of mids)... you may have got 5-7 doses total with that. your high is most likely placebo

Well i suppose that's possible. Are placebo's able to mimic the side effects too, such as blood shot eyes and extreme hunger?
I honestly doubt it's placebo. If anything like that it would be a tolerance related. I probably only smoke one to twice a week, and even then it's just one dry pipe at a time. That's enough lift me where i want to be. If i fill the cone to the top and smoke the whole thing i would be so high i'd pass out, and likely also have paranoia attacks.

P-O is correct, I typically run several oz's when doing a tincture mixture or wax

When I can find hash (very rare) I usually use a gram to make excellent GreenDragon in GoldGrain or Everclear.
I have never used more than 7 grams or so when making green dragon but it usually is so so at best. So I think P-O is right you might have to use a good amount to get some potent stuff.

I was describing my past tinctures that were created through the same process as the one described in the op, for the reason of comparison. I was being logical, which is why i asked a follow up question. Many members here have likely had a lot more experience with such matters than i, and i value their opinions. Since P-O suggested it a placebo, i became curious to the effects a placebo can bring about.

you can soak weed in alcohol and get some mild effects, but if youre trying to get the tincture to kick your ass you have to decarb the bud BEFORE you soak it in alcohol. decarboxilation converts the non psychoactive THCA into psychoactive THC.

Nah i haven't man, i've never had enough weed to try doing it. At one stage when i had more money, i did plan on making some. I read up on several guides and watched a couple of tutorials on youtube, but then i copped two large fines from the police for speeding and driving an unregistered car. Paying that off destroyed the plans i had at the time. I have the money now, but i need a new car, so i'm saving it up.
Why'd you ask?
