 Some basic questions

1. When should I start adding nutrients? The plants are growing from a jiffy cube, and are starting to touch the coco coir in the pot. I have been told that you can buy nutrients for seedlings. Do these speed up growth?
2. Three survived out of five. One of them barely made it, and its cotyledons are yellow, the first true leaves about half an inch long, and healthy. Anything that can be done besides just continue watering?
3. I am using a 52watt 6500k 5022 lumens flourescent, and the plants are lined across parallel to the light. Will this be enough for veg, and then an HPS for flowering, or should I start on an HPS earlier for faster growth?
4. How many watts HPS would I need for a 4x4 area with a few plants, and would I need only one? Are HPS safe?

1 - It's hard to kill a plant from under feeding them. If you wanted to u could just wait til they show nutrient deficiencies then start adding. Personally I add them from the start.
2 - keep watering it and it will be fine as long as you don't mess with it too much.
3 - for gods sake use the hps lol. Some people say it makes plants stretch but I've nvr seen any evidence of that besides positioning the light too far away.
4 - for a 4x4 a 600w should be plenty. I've done that area with a 150w and still had decent results though.

It's my understanding you don't usually need to feed for a few weeks, but you could use a regular food in reduced amounts. A lot of potting mixes take care of food for 4 or so weeks.
I wouldn't say HPS and MH are safe since they get really hot, but they are a lot cooler than halogen bulbs of the same size. You just have to make sure your wiring isnt too shoddy and take the proper measures too avoid the light falling or being near things that burn.
