Hmmm... possession of knowledge from sources of different, polar opposite agendas, then the backing of a rational theory/hypothesis by using these biases as information to avoid and then backing up the now observable 'truth' by relating said theory/hypothesis with scientific/statistical/psychological/sociological data. Then publishing.
Or eating hallucinogens. I always feel smarter on hallucinogens.

i had to retake the SAT because the first time I took it i was real burnt out from a lot of shrooms, and I didnt bring a calculator
i retook it though and made 200 more points yay

my idea of "smart" is experience.
you can't have much without experience, but there are also factors to what generates a person to becoming "smart". there are plenty of different types, albeit "book smart" or just plain out common sense. my best subject in school was always science, and it's weird that to this day i'm still interested in science-like subjects. i just think it depends on what your interests are now and how fully involved you are in them.
i fall along the range of experience/common sense. since i never finished middle school and i'd rather be out and about than sitting in a classroom with those uncomfortable chairs and the sound of people sniffling all over the place.
that's just me though
