Mixing 'spent' mycelium with soil?
    #709891 - 01/25/14 08:53 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

So I have heard that roots benefits from mycelium so would mixing in some of a spent colonized substrate be worth it?

Not the same type of fungus that is beneficial to the plant.

That's correct, but the point of using spent mushroom substrates is for the fortification of nitrogen into the soil.  Mushroom compost that has been bagged and is sold for gardening purposes has been sat outside to compost for at least 2 years before it gets bagged and sold.

But that's not what he was driving at, and that is non composted.  Just throwing spent casings in your soil wouldn't be the way to go about a source for nitrogen.

Casings and substrates are two different things.  I wouldn't go "throwing" spent casings anywhere either except for into a pile specifically used for dumping spent casings into.  Haven't you ever heard of "mushroom compost"?  Mushroom compost is exactly spent mushroom substrates that have been composted for 2 years before its bagged and sold as a soil ammendment or soil replacement.  Spent mushroom substrates are required by some kind of industry standard to compost for two years before it can be sold, and yea.  Mushroom compost is high in nitrogen.

Of course I know what composting is.  But that's NOT what the OP was talking about doing.  Nor the benefit of composting mushrooms substrate is what the OP was talking about.

Sheesh....

No shit Sherlock.

I was merely pointing out another use for spent mushroom substrates.

I was wondering if anyone grows mushrooms and bud together. Could probably do it if the substrate for the mushrooms was on top and you watered with a funnel past it.

But yea Endo mycorrhizael is what benefits cannabis. At least I think that's the fungus.

btw if you buy mycorrhizae and bacteria like great white, myco madness oregonism or any of that stuff, make sure to compare the # of spores or propagules(or whatever) per gram/lb. Most have a lot less than great white and actually aren't a better deal. although the other day I saw this stuff called mycoapply that I think has more than great white, but it's also a fertilizer. I personally use down to earth's mycorrhizae. I have no idea if it's doing anything more than worm castings or compost alone would do.

As far as Plant Success brand mycorrhizae products go, all you need is Mike o'rize which is just the endo mycorrhizae . I could be wrong about it being all you need. I'm new to a lot of this shit btw.

I've seen people try growing them together.  I'm pretty sure I remember them getting some fruits.  But that really isn't an optimal way to grow either IMO.

Well it doesn't matter if I'm a TC or not, I've just noticed him being kinda rude in general.

The best soil product I've ever seen is Mayan Microzyme. I mixed it up with some molasses in water, bubbled it with an air hose for 3 days and my plants went from weird sad droopy pH fucked mistakes to gorgeous, hardcore mothers. Incredible product and I'll never grow in soil without it.

Please do. It's definitely expensive, but I used 6oz of it and made enough tea to water 6 x 5 gallon buckets and ideally you only need to do that once per grow. Once the soil is innoculated you're pretty much good.

You realize that's not a Mychorreal supplement right?  It's bacterial.

Which is totally cool, I use PHC Biopack for that.  But I'm more than happy to try something new

Yeah for sure, I should have mentioned I also added some Mykos during the transplant so I have a full microbiological array.
