Ideal amount of light ?

I am setting up a tent for flowering, It is a 48x48x76". I was thinking of using 1 600w HPS, and 1 150watt hps in it.
I do have 2 600 watt hps lights, but I was wanting to do two flowering rooms.
So what is the optimal light for a tent this size?
Also, From my guestimation, I think I can fit 9 5 gallon pots in the tent, or 12-13 3 gallon pots. Which would likely yeild more ?

i would set it up as two 400watt lights at min... or go up to two 600. cause you have 16sq feet.. the two 400watt will give you 50watts a sq foot. so u will be right at the ideal rang of light/watts a sqft. two 600 will give you 75sqft. but i woudl say just go with the two 400 will do u just fine.

So 800watts is around perfect, thank you. I already have nearly that much light now.
I will likely use the 600watt, and a 150watt hps. 750watts is very close to optimal, I could prob even toss a couple cfl's in there to make up for it.
1200 watts seems like overkill, and I imagine would make it harder to maintain temps in the tent.

if your lights are in vented hoods and you have a strong inline fan you will be able to keep your room temps stable.
you would be better off doing two 400 watt lights because your light will be spaced out more even and better coverage for all your plants.. if u just use a 750 that wont cover as well.. pluse u will have to keep that light higher and the further the light it up the more light you lose from the light energy breaking down.

Yes well, I prob will not purchase two more lights since I already have a few 600 watters. All of my lights are cool-tubes, so I may try it.
Could using too much light be harmful to the plants? For example, two 600 watt hps lights in 16sq foot area? I do not mean heat, but just having too much light, is that possible?
Thanks.

Nope. The more the better.......as long as your temps stay in check.
50 watts per square foot is what you should shooting for.

im not sure i never used that much watts per a sqft.. but if the plants seem to be getting bleached out you can always just try to raise the light up a little bit more so the light wont be so intense
