fucking bizarre morning depression
    #633457 - 08/01/12 05:57 AM (11 years, 7 months ago)

Anyone else get it? I have my ups and downs like anyone else, but it seems like every morning I wake up depressed as fuck.

I have plenty in my life to be sad about but I'm usually just not. I cope with shit really well by keeping my dog and my family and my bros close. But for some reason I wake up every morning hating everything and wanting to die.

Um fortunate enough that it goes away within an hour every day but what the fuck? When I wake up I'm always thinking about the most shitty things, completely unwillingly.

I guess its common for people who are depressed to have it more intensely during the morning hours, but I'd say I don't have it any other time of the day. Maybe 6 years ago but not anymore.

Oddly enough my life seems to be more on track than ever before, but my mornings get worse and worse.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Are you taking drugs that might not be leaving you with enough serotonin in the morning. I'm personally very sensitive to serotonin levels. Also maybe it's residue from depressing dreams that have slipped from your memory. Or sometimes I think weed stops you from dreaming so maybe if you're blazing up before bed you're not getting all your negative subconscious stuff out. I tend to get flooded with almost crippling sadness on my way to work in the morning. I wish I weren't such a baby about it but it's really fucking awful and I can't seem to overcome it. I talked to a psychologist and she was like get a different job. Great advice bitch. Too bad there's nothing out there and I'm barely hanging on to this one.

I hear that.

I do occasionally take some dph to sleep. And I did last night which is the first morning in a while I've had it.

Maybe that has something to do with it.

It happens to me, too.

But I'm on lamictal now and it doesn't happen anymore.

Lamictal ftw.

From wiki

In the 1960s, diphenhydramine was found to inhibit reuptake of the neurotransmitter serotonin.[30] This discovery led to a search for viable antidepressants with similar structures and fewer side-effects, culminating in the invention of fluoxetine (Prozac), a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI).[30][31] A similar search had previously led to the synthesis of the first SSRI, zimelidine, from brompheniramine, also an antihistamine.

I had this problem recently and just recently learned to get over it.

I would wake up grumpy and annoyed and thinking about bad stuff even though my life is pretty awesome and in general I am pretty stable right now. But I would get in fights with my family when I woke up for no reason.

There a few simple ways to overcome this.
One- go to bed the previous night with a positive attitude. Say you are going to wake up in the morning happy, and think about all the good fun stuff you will get to do that day. Maybe even meditate a little.

Two- when you wake up remember to be happy and relax. The world is a beautiful place and it would be a shame to waste any of your privileged life with negative thoughts when you could have positive ones.

Three- Get into a relaxed/meditative state of mind if you meditate at all. And/or go straight for bong when you wake up. That always helps.

If you do this, the depression will be go away pretty quickly. And once you do this a few days in a row, you'll stop feeling depressed in the morning period.

Detachment is a form of meditation you can practice 24/7. Detach yourself from you emotions, thoughts. and sensations- whether they are good or bad. Do not try to control them.

Any joy or pain can be used as a catalyst for detachment. Just observe your emotions and now they are just the three gunas flowing through you. They are not you and they will pass. All things must pass.

Thoughts are like waves rolling into the tide. Watch them dissipate and understand they are automatic and not real. Nothing is really real. Life is what you make of it. Everything is a product of your mind. It's like a bicycle, and it can't sustain itself if you stop peddling. Find this peddling in your mind, this constant effort, and let it go.

Haha that sounds like being a jedi dude. Not that that is bad. I try to do that a bit.

I'm gonna blame the dph for now. I'm not gonna take any for a few weeks and then take some and see if I see a difference.

Haha what is this being a jedi? I've heard this phrase quite a few times now and I love it, and I think I grasp the basic meaning of it, but where does it come from? I mean obviously it's Star Wars, but when did people start using it as a phrase of being an enlightened individual/love warrior?

 Is this it?

http://www.kincharbamin.com/Live-Like-A-Jedi.html

Just googled it! Pretty good philosophy, but the ideas in it definitely extend from way before Star Wars.

Yeah, that's it haha. I really like the concept for the force...how when people die they are moved into a greater conciousness. I've always liked to believe we all move into one cloud entity or something when we die.

Not to say that I follow some jedi religion lol, but I always thought it was a cool concept. I'm sure there's a legit name for it besides the force lol.

The mortality stuff makes some sense but 'dream catchers'? Come on, man. I agree that wake'n'bakes can start you off right. Especially if the weed isn't too strong.

Mmmm I don't have any weak weed lol.

And don't be too quick to dismiss dream catchers man. I used to have one and I'd definitely love another.
