 How much wattage should I have for 5 plants?

Gonna have at least 1 room that I can grow in within the next 2 months, which I'll have to myself for 6 months. the room is pretty big.
for 5 plants how much wattage would be ideal?
Using a MH for veg and HPS for flowering btw.

btw not sure if it makes a difference but I'm gonna top all the plants maybe do a LST to maximize production and use of space.

Well it depends on how much you want to get out of it. The amount of money you're willing to invest. And all sorts of other variables.
I would go with a minimum 2000 watts to start though.

Factoring out money? 3000 watts. You're gonna need a/c, ventilation, etc. etc.

Rather then asking how much wattage to use for 5 plants you should figure out the amount of space your gonna use and ask how much wattage for so much space.

There's a 24'x24' shed next to our house that I want to rent from our landlord. I figure split it into 4 12x12 rooms, and put 9kw in each room. Probably use a flip-flopper so I only have to buy 18 ballasts and 36 hoods and bulbs, instead of 36 ballasts too. Only 9 plants in each room, so I can stay under the 45 plant limit that we've got here in Washington...
But then, I'll only be able to do that AFTER I've got a full 8kw in my small shed...

Yea. Gotta have 3 sets of paperwork (15 plants per person), but that's the limit set in the law they passed last year for collective gardens.
