Yellowing?
    #616611 - 04/06/12 09:11 PM (11 years, 11 months ago)

I didn't know whether to put this in either thread I already made so I made this one.

How do these look? I saw the yellowing and wasn't sure if that was normal because they were just the first leaves or if it was a sign of anything. The plants in general seem healthy. Would like some input.

A little early for yellowing.  What are the parameters man?  pH?  Substrate? yadda.....

I am getting a PH tester tomorrow so I'll let you know about that. I used fifty fifty mix of my pasture soil (That I microwaved sterilized), and scott's organic top soil, also added a small amount of vermiculite and even less of miracle grow perlite (I know MG sucks, didn't realize it had the MG additives in it, I am not going to use it when I transplant). I just kind of eye balled it I didn't make exact measurements.

I have 2 CFL lights on that are about 1750 lumens each 6500 K; 24/0. I water lightly once maybe twice a week at most. I know I am probably being difficult so just let me know what other info you need.

Edit: Also they're roughly 2 weeks old.

1.  You need to make sure the water that they are getting is pH balanced.  That is key.  Sounds like you will be taking care of this.

2.  Water thoroughly when you water.  Not lightly.  You want to make sure that all the soil as water penetration.

It's hard to say if you are already having too much nutes in your soil or too little nutes in you soil because of the mix you used.

I would flush them thoroughly with pH balanced water, 3 times the container size, and then put in a small amount of nutes in with the last amount of water.  I would go with Botainicaire Pure Blend Pro.

This is just a trial sample I sent you a link to.

Thanks for the tips. I will update with the PH levels of the water I been using as well as the soil. After that I'll go ahead and flush like you said. I'll try and find that kind if I can locally. Will it say on the bottle how much to put in? Eye ball it? I don't want to bomb them.

I do have drainage holes, at least 5 in each. But I haven't flushed. I just mainly misted until the top/mid layer is moist. I understand now I need to flush.

Thanks for the link also. I'll go ahead and return what I got and order online what you recommended hawk

I noticed today that the big leaves on one of the plants are curling a little at the tips.

that cup is killing it.. if you had 100 cups. they would probably all look like that. the soil is tight as fuck,, when you're watering its getting a lot of water, but its drying. and its really not stable there. It will survive, cup grows will take off after transplanting. Which you should do anyways..

MMmm....it could be.  But I doubt it.  I always start out in cups without any problems.

The one is only showing a bit of yellowing is all.  The other is all genetics.  It's been messed up from the get go.

The yellowing on the one plant has gotten worse since the 3 days I posted the other pic.

The Mutant seems to be doing well actually. I was looking at it and it seems like instead of growing straight up it has mutated to grow more at a 45 angle...weird.

Today is their once a week water so I decided to give them both their first flushing (With distilled pH balanced water). Also since the tests showed those results I added a small amount of nutes to see if it helps the one plant.

Edit: Also I was planning on transplanting them in about a week. What do you guys think?

Yeah I'm kinda surprised you are getting all this yellowing.  Maybe you should transplant faster.

I was thinking about it. I think i'll give it a half week to see if the nutes have any effect. If not I'll go ahead and transplant before it gets worse.

I was reading through the book and some of the pics, do you think it could possibly be due to excess Potassium? Just a shot in the dark, I am really confused..

If your soil was hot enough in potassium it could cause it to lock out already.  Were you using a name brand soil?

I was using 50/50 mix of Scott's organic top soil and my own pasture soil.
