I'm no scientist here, but what we call "resin" isn't actually resin. I think its just residue and tar leftover from the smoke...which makes me want a vape all the more when I think of how much of that shit must be in my lungs.
By technical definition, resin is "a hydrocarbon secretion of many plants". So I think its more like sap and shit.
I'm not sure why we call it resin.
And IDK, but I doubt its very healthy. It makes ME wanna die every time I take a hit of it.

Andyman, are you asking about resin from trichome heads (which are the goods that we are concentrating when producing hashish) or the stuff you clean out of a pipe and (hopefully) discard?
If you're asking about the former, than here's a good reference:
"Terpenoids...along with the cannabinoids, make up almost all of the contents of the resin glands." --Robert Connell Clarke (2010, pg.202)

It does taste like baby diarreah, but it also does get you stoned like a mother fucker.
I still prefer to throw it away
