Cold Stress ? PH problem ?
    #611393 - 03/03/12 03:09 PM (4 years, 8 months ago)

Hello,

I have 15 plants in vegetarian week 3.
This is my fist grow with purchased seeds and second in total.
I think they are growing slowly and also I see on 4 of them the bottom leaves are losing their green color and turning white/yellow.
Right know I check the temperature and its 21 C also I touched the pots and they are cold...
I think they are in cold stress... what do you think ?
Are these the symptoms of cols stress ?
I turned the fans off and the hitter on so they will recovered !?
Should I expect improvement as soon as they feel the warm temperature ?!
I put some fans there and I turned the hitter off because their top leaves was curling up due to low humidity (28%) or maybe a little bit of heat stress.
Also I used a humidifier and its another cause of low temperature in the room.

21c isn't too cold its only when its below 15c will you see growth  almost stop.

The leaves you are describing sound like a nutrient issue.  Likely Nitrogen inefficiency and/or potassium inefficiency.  Pictures would help..

For more help you should fill this out:

Soil Growers:
1. Are you growing from seed or clones?
2. How old are your plants?
3. How tall are your plants?
4. What size containers are they planted in?
5. What is your soil mix?
6. How often do you water and what type of water do you use?
7. What is the pH of your water?
8. What kind of fertilizer do you use and what is its NPK ratio?
9. Do you foliar feed or spray your plants with anything?
10. What kind of lights do you use and how many watts combined? (HPS, MH, fluorescent, halogen, incandescent "plant lights")
11. How close are your lights to the plants?
12. What size is your grow space in square feet?
13. What is the temperature and humidity in your grow space?
14. What is the pH of the soil?
15. Have you noticed any insect activity in your grow space?
16. How much experience do you have growing?

1. Are you growing from seed or clones? Seeds
2. How old are your plants? 18 days
3. How tall are your plants? 8-11 cm
4. What size containers are they planted in? small size. you can see in the picture
5. What is your soil mix? garden soil - perlite - peat moss - coco peat
6. How often do you water and what type of water do you use? tap water - only when the top of the soil dry - usually every day, sometimes every other day
7. What is the pH of your water? 7.1
8. What kind of fertilizer do you use and what is its NPK ratio? Nothing yet.
9. Do you foliar feed or spray your plants with anything? No
10. What kind of lights do you use and how many watts combined? (HPS, MH, fluorescent, halogen, incandescent "plant lights") 6 of them are under 150 watt MH and the rest under cfl 3x40 watt (both type have slow grow problem)
11. How close are your lights to the plants? 25 cm under MH and 15 CM cfl
12. What size is your grow space in square feet? big
13. What is the temperature and humidity in your grow space? 21-24 C - 25-30%
14. What is the pH of the soil? not sure
15. Have you noticed any insect activity in your grow space? no
16. How much experience do you have growing? Its my second grow. first grow not finished yet but they are healthily under 950 watt HPS in week 5 flowering.(bagseeds)

actually its usually more than 21 (23 is the average) but the ground is a little bit colder I think. (I put some stuff under the pots but when I touch them they are a little colder than my hands.)
and I was meant chimney , heater by using word hitter. excuse me for my little bad English !

Anyway here are pics and they were totally happy one week ago... also i think maybe I over-watered them...

Time to transplant!  The need more soil and more nutrients.  They don't look over watered to me.

Get them into bigger pots and I bet they'll start to take off again.

I can't provide them enough lights If I moved them into the bigger put at this moment.
Can I fertilizer them at the small dose till I do something about their lights or its too dangerous in these small pots ?

You can definitely give them a small dose of fertilizer.  Take your pH down to 6.8 as well.

As a pointer
If your stuck using that small of a pot indefinitely, you will get better results if you water them 2-3 times a day...just smaller amounts...making sure not to over water.

You treat it like is hydro

Add nutes as required

Now, right after I changed the pots (less than 24 hours ago) and gave them lots of water they are getting worse.
The bottom leaves are burning much faster and much worse...

Before I change the pots they were much better.
Is it water PH related ? or its something about soil ?
Soil mix is regular garden soil- Peat moss- Vermi compost- compost and very very small amount of cow manure.
Also they are under 400 watt MH right now with 50-60 CM distance.
water PH is something between 7 and 7.5 but it was ok for my first grow (bagseed) but the soil mix is a little bit different compare to the first grow.
The little one in the pics have 15 days old, its northern lights auto flowering femenised.

24 hours before changing pot

And The only thing I didn't say is I just gave them very small amounts of fertilizer 24 hours before I change the pots.

I would get your ph in check, your water it is to high and you don't know the soil ph. Also stop fertilizing there should be enough in the soil to get you started. I will try to explain the ph thing, when your ph is off it appears as if you have a deficency but actually your plant can't digest the nutrients correctly giving you the apperance of a deficency, flush your plants with ph balance water like 6.5 or any other flushing product like flora clean, get yourself some Cal-MAG everyone needs Cal-Mag. Flush then wait five six days and give it cal-mag and ph balance water it will take a week or two for the plants to return to normal, also usually if its to cold your plants will purple on leaves and stems.

So its the PH issue for sure ?!
I use tap water and I checked all the mineral water in my area and the PH for all of them is more than 7.
So how can I find some water with PH 6.5 ?!
Also I searched and seems no body have any idea what is cal-mag ....
So I'm pretty sure I can't find it in my country....
And also there is no sign of purple on the leaves or stems so I think its not cold stress and the other guys already confirmed the problem is something else....
Is it safe to make some PH'd water with small amount of white vinegar ?!? Can I flush with that water ??

You need to order a pH kit to test what the pH is.  Adjust it with lemon juice or baking soda.  Baking soda will raise the pH and lemon juice will lower it.

Here's a site you can order any and all the nutrients you need.  As well as pH testing kits.  But I would recommend getting an electronic meter.  You can also get real pH up and down through here as well.

  no dude.  15C is plenty warm still, if growth just stopped at 15C then nobody would EVER yield jack from their outdoor plots.
