 Duct conversion and flow

I'm about to get a 6in booster fan (240 CFM) and a DIY scrubber. My question is how will having the outlet tapered immediately to 4in duct hosing effect the efficiency of air flow or the scrubber itself?
I hypothesize that this would be fairly benign except that maybe and hopefully the hot air expulsion is pressurized to shoot farther from the hosing?  Open flow CFM is lower than boosted CFM from what I gather, so would constricted flow increase CFM? or just overwork the fan? Most of the info I get on this subject is car anatomy and re-engineering.
While researching the above, I came across fan forms: axial and centrifugal. In my search for a decent, cheap fan I came across Marine Bilge fans which are described as axial and are cheap as fuck. My first delve into this realm said that you would not want an axial fan in a scrubber/exhaust setup because they are inefficient when it comes to static pressure. Now, the second time around has said the opposite: axial fans are used in high-pressure applications and centrifugal fans are cheaper, simpler, and generally less efficient.
Most hydro-minded fans seem to follow centrifugal fashion and are generally expensive. I've never heard of the application of Marine Bilge blowers in grow setups but it seems they'd be an economical choice. I'd like some input on these conflicting statements of the internets.

1)I know nothing about marine bilge fans.
2)Ducting will decrease your fans efficiency by baffling the air as it moves through the ducting regardless of what size; using a reducer to decrease the diameter from 6" to 4" (that's what I'm assuming you mean by taper to 4" ducting) will make the air move faster due to the bottleneck, but will again decrease the fan efficiency.
3)None of this may matter in the long run depending on what size grow tent or box you're using. If its 3x3x5 or 4x2x6 or something like that, a 270 CFM rated fan will still move more than enough air for you regardless of decreased fan efficiency.
