I dont know much about LEDs, but I do know that manufacturers/retailers generally exaggerate the area of coverage that a light supplies. You have a 8 square foot area, and the light is only supposed to cover 4-6 square feet. Also- yes you need ventilation. Plants need to breathe.

i just got 4 15w blue LED and they SEEM to veg young plants as well as a 400W MH did
i would imagine a 250W LED would definitely do the trick
for that space tho, two would be great. or cut the closet in half for the one light

I think thats way too much heat, and possibly way too much light. I have a 400watter, same dimentions and it gets pretty hot

The box is not enclosed, the top is open to the room. So I don't think heat will be an issue. The box is essentially a box frame, made of 2x4 lumber, with mylar siding.

Maybee, depending on your climate. But I have the 400 watter in a cooltube w/ an inline fan, and it still goes into the 90s whenever its 75 out. 100watt per sq ft is overkill in my opinion because of electicity costs and possible problems. For example, the plants will need more co2 to process the light & nutes. Or the mylar gets a little bent at the top of the box, and you get huge burns.

Thanks for your responses. It's about to turn winter here, so the temperatures shouldn't be an issue, I can always add fans if so.. as for too much light, I don't get that.. I'm sure the sun puts off far more light than this, correct? So I don't see how there's such a thing as too much light.
As far as the mylar goes, can bends in it cause the reflected light to burn the plant?

No such thing as to much light in my opinion. I like 100 watts per square foot or more. To bad most of the posts are deleted, I may have been able to help.

I tried to delete the entire thread, apparently you can't. :o
Anyway, I acquired the light from a friend who told me it was an 800watt. After looking it up online, it's in fact a 1000watt. Fine by me.
As for the heat, I've been able to keep it under control so far, the room temperature has not exceeded 75d

We're still talking early sprouts atm, but it will be about 18" from the top of the canopy, (further if too hot) If all goes according to plan. :p
Let's put it this way, I just so happened to read the sticky "This may answer some very important questions" thread, while a bit high.
Paranoia kicked in, deleted things. Nothing personal, I love these communities and all, I just don't know how safe it is to divulge our activities freely on them.

I mean your thermometer; is it on the floor or up at canopy level?
Yeah, it can never be safe BUT my theory is that the gov would not whaste funds and time to bust a closet grow like mine or yours.
There should be a secret community which u can only join by being reffered by a member. And the only way to be reffered would be meeting one of them in person and smoking a few bowls:) They could atill hack it, but noone will know its there if theres no hype. We can name it something wierd or boring to make sure noone finds it accidentally...geneteliarashcure.org O; or oldgayporn.com xD. Aaaah im hai

Haha, yeah.. I'm just being paranoid. Though there's plenty of sites like that, waffles for one..
I'll take temperatures at different distances in a few hrs, once my lights kick back on. I only took the temperature inside the box, at ground level.
