My (ex) lady and I used to do this every so often, exhaling our hit to the other. Just to see how effective it was, one time I didn't smoke and I had her take a few hits & "shotgun" them to me. I definitely got stoned, but not nearly as stoned as I would have been if I was hitting the bong as well.

Yeah I read something similar to that a long time ago, except they said it was about 8 seconds.
8 seconds is the maximum I hold in when tokin' on the .
The rest just builds up, and isn't healthy. But even if that is true. There are other
cannabinoids in weed which aren't restricted to just Δ9-THC.
There are other cannabinoids as well, such as:

Cannabidiol - CBD
Cannabinol - CBN
Cannabigerol CBG
Tetrahydrocannabivarin - THCV
Cannabichromene - CBC

And so on. Most of these metabolize into Δ9-THC or are THC metabolites.
Most of these compounds work together in creating the entire psychoactive
effect, so I'm sure there are some cannabinoids even in recycled cannabis smoke,
that basically end up causing a person to get high through shotgunning smoke.
