6/4/08

I figured I would go ahead and start a grow journal. This way I can look back on the stuff I did and see where I could have gone different. Right now I have 8 plants. I'm not exactly sure on their age. The first picture below is of the 4 plants I got from a friend. 2 purple ones (not sure of exact strain) and 2 lemon skunk plants. They looked good when I got them except for one of the purp plants had been trimmed a little too much.


Below is my biggest plant which got stretched a little too much.
It still may pull off pretty good.


I built this box yesterday. Still trying to work out the final touches. Going to get some white paint and everything else needed. Those are 4 23w 1600 lumen CFL's.

Looks good! Are you gonna toss some Mylar/Panda on the walls, or just keep it white paint? What other lights will you use?

Nah, i'm just gonna paint them white. I'm only going to use those 4 cfl's until I can get the hps/mh setup im looking at.

The big plant in the middle has a flower on it. They are all still small though. I had to use my shitty camera this time, couldn't find the other.







Here they all are, i'm waiting for the rest to start budding.

From what I can see in the picture, for how blurry it is those look like male parts but I may be wrong...get a camera and take some real pictures so we can really see them

Yeah, the big one in the middle is a male. I am going to keep it I think. I don't care about getting seeds in the shit. It's my first grow. I just want as much bud as possible, so it will last.

If you want much buds, you have to kill the male. Anyway, I don't think it will give you something good to smoke.

He's planning on keeping the male to produce seeds to have more seeds to grow from later. The pollinated females will obviously focus more on seed production instead of bud production, but I don't see much of a reason to think that the buds that are produced won't be decent smoke. Trichomes and the subsequent psychoactive chemicals like THC are naturally defense mechanisms to protect the forming seed from damage. Yield would certainly suffer and I'm sure potency does to some extent, but its not like there wouldn't be anything good to smoke, I'm sure.

If the other plants haven't started preflowering, I don't think you have much to worry about, unless it produced a lot of pollen in the meantime that stays in the room, but it really doesn't sound like that is the case. I'm sure its fine. :wink:

Yah, if the pollen sacs on the male didn't open up you won't have anything to worry about.  If they did open for some reason and produced pollen, you're going to need to scrub the shit out of your grow room.  Pollen can stay around a for a while and cause some headaches if you're not careful.

BTW, judging from those pics, your plants are asking for more light then you're giving them.

use the male to pollinate the preflowers before the females really start flowering.  this way you can harvest the seeds as they drop, but avoid seeding up the main crop that will be harvested later.  just make sure you remember to kill the male before the main flowering begins.

It dropped some pollen. About 3 flowers opened. I already killed it. I've got 6400 lumens in the box. I still haven't painted it white or made any kind of reflector. I have some aluminum foil I was going to pull over the top of the lights with the dull side down. That will be my reflector.
