Dumplings who likes them? Who makes them?

Anyone a fan of dumplings? Dim Sum dumplings?

I really like the dumplings I order from a local Chinese restaurant I really like the shrimp and chives, the shrimp and garlic, and the shrimp and spinach. I also like the shark dumplings. I've tried a bunch of meat dumplings such as pork, beef, and even chicken but didn't care for any.

I'm thinking of making my own. I bought a steamer from the ethnic store but haven't made dumplings before. Anyone have any success making their own?

Pot Stickers? Never made them but they are pretty damned good, especially with the sauce they are served with.

Edit : I think these are different but similar.

I've been served a number of different sauces. I recall this korean place giving me a plum sauce for their dumplings. I think bean paste is common for sauces or just soy.

Pot sticker? I bought a 3 or 4 tier bamboo steamer that sits ontop of a pot with boiling water to steam the dumplings or whatever it is you decide to steam. I also have a huge metal steamer I bought ages ago I'd use to steam veggies but it's in storage quite far away. It's also cheaply made and started making my food taste like metal, so I don't think it's safe to use.

That's a potsticker.

I'm now pretty sure they are different but similar, I thought that was what you meant when I first read it. These are called chinese dumplings too.

The only dumplings I've had were Chicken and Dumplings my mom made.
She made her dumplings from scratch (and sometimes killed the chicken)
I buy whole chicken and frozen dumplings at the store and make it myself now
don't know shit about those asian dumplings in the OP though :justdontknow:

Yea, asian dumplings are a lot different than our dumplings.

I had no idea. I just refer to all that stuff as dumplings or dimsum. Come to think of it I do recall Har Gar being the open style shrimp dumpling. I asked, is this a dumpling? Because it was listed under dimsum and the lady was like no not really and I'm like what the hell is it then? What she explained was basically what I'd consider a dumpling.

I never made them myself, but seen others do it.  And if you buy the pre-made skins, it looks to be pretty simple. But I think making the skins home made is pretty mch the same as the process of making pasta from scratch, so it's more time consuming than difficult.  After that. it's basically just making a filler and folding it into the dumpling: pretty strait forward

The best i ever had though included beef, ginger and shitaki as the main ingredients

I dunno about the Asian ones, but the ones my mom always made were pretty gross. It was just like fluffy nothingness. Just filler. Something I'd eat if I were going to starve myself for a few days so I could be really full the first day.

If the Asian ones are the ones that are filled with some kinda cream cheese and crab meat mixture, I love those things <3
