how often can you flush soil plants
    #456161 - 08/06/10 11:18 PM (13 years, 7 months ago)

i am a fan of mixing my own soil. i came from mushroom growing and i need to get my hands in the substrate and mix that shit up with love.
my plants are 4 months old one is flowering the other is respectively taking her time.

i guess my buckets are small because i need 2-4 gallons A DAY or my plants will wilt badly, not just kind of.

i rarely use full strength nutes, and i flush all the time. maybe 1/2-3/4 of the times i water i flush or use quarter strength nutes or only micro-bacteria or superthrive.

i have only very minor N deficiencies but its flowering time so that doesn't bother me to much.

this is my soil

5 gallon buckets from top  bottom
------------------------------
fox farms ocean mist
fox farms potting mix
mushroom compost/peat moss
ground soil/mushroom compost/perlite/peat moss
ground soil/perlite/coir/gypsum/Dynamite
ground soil/perlite/coir(hydrated in Super thrive mix)/verm/gypsum/miracle-grow potting mix
(ground)soil
cactus soil
small rocks
larger rocks
------------------------------

is this to much for me to be flushing
i used a lot of peat and coir so i am afraid of salt buildup

about 3 square feet each.
they are in 5 gallon buckets and need atleast 7 gallon buckets.
i dont think they drink 3 gallons i think my soil has too much drainage.
i have tried watering at different times of the day or watering twice.
either way if they dont get at least 3 gallons of water a day they will wilt.

wanna give me some information on what i asked?

what kind of nutes are you using? organic or synth?
do you use clearing solution when you flush?
what is the ph of the runoff?

for you, no need to flush more than once every 2-3 weeks, imho

so would more( say 3 times a month) just make me loose leaves or would there be larger problem?
if i said my ph was 6 what would you have said, what if it was 7?
would you suggest using the cleaning solutions?

3x a month isn't bad, just unnessesary
are your leaves yellowing at all? or spotting?
for me 5.5-6pH is optimal for soil
clearing solutions are cool for the final flush, but with your nutes no need to use clearing solution mid flower or veg

i would recommend Green Stay for yellowing or leaves falling
if your having problems mid flower with leaves falling off you should try feeding them more while vegging next time

you may want to give the plant a watering of full strength veg nutes, then back to normal, if it helps hit them with veg nutes again, but just for one or two waterings max

dont flush her anymore, imo, til harvest

on a side note, organic nutes require a microherd to "give" the nutes to the plant, it's a 12-36hr process, so it's crucial to feed before they need, and to inoculate the soil once in a while with mycorhiz or forest humus
it's also very hard to burn plants with organic nutes, try doing full or 2x feed for a watering or two, and stop flushing out those nutes! lol

lots of info,
thanks a million
-the only reason i have flushed that much is because i used alot of peat and coir in my mix and i have read that can lock in salts and also break down to be very acidic.
-the only yellow leaves i have are at the bottom and never received mu light.
-i was thinking i might have problems mid flower that is why i made this post actually.
- i have no more veg nutes (only some crappy hydroponic stuff)
- fox farms is not fully organic and there other line of flowering products are far from fully organic (ill be using them sparingly)
i made my soils with micro nutrients, enzymes, soil microbiota in mind and have cared for my soil since before day 1
i used my compost from all my old mushroom projects
i used soil from the ground
i used only compost tea to water my plants for the first 30days-ish
each bucket has handfulls of earth worms in it(from my compost)
all of those foxfarms product Incorporated micronutrients from bat guano and kelp- the nutes and the soil on top
i started feeding the soil blue agave nectar today (instead of molasses)
i also used something called bio tone fora while that turned my water black

thanks for taking the time bud:smile::thumbup:

worms(most types) i looked up mine just to make sure are great for soil, some better then others.
they shit out whole colonies of beneficial micro bacteria at a time; they do tuns of shit just google it.
also if you put worms in early and they stay alive you know you have a healthy ph level, no salt build up and a correct water content. if any of these things are off the worms should try and leave your bucket.

and to get some what back onto topic when do u know its time to start flushing like if you are growing from bag seed like me and dont know the exact flowering period. im guessing its a 60 day period for flowering time. so im guessing on day 50 i should start flushing for 7 days or when the plant is half filled with red hairs?
