Yeah real steep, 4,000 vertical feet over 4 miles. But really it's like 2 miles of flat as you get to the base and then 2,000 feet/mile for the last two miles until you finish at 14,421 feet.  Left our car at 7:30 and summited by 10:30 so a pretty good pace, but we went slow because one of our climb members was a little hungover

It's so hard to hike fast above like 12k feet. Plus it's all steep and evil but damn it's fun. One more down on my goal of eventually climbing every 14er in Colorado!

Yep, there's an exponential decrease in air density as you go up in altitude. At 14,000 feet I'm only breathing 40% as much air as you folk at sea-level. You literally get winded walking on level ground, it's really quite a trip.

For example, this is the final stretch to the summit for my climb yesterday;


Looks relatively tame, no?  Well in reality you're gasping for air and stopping to catch your breath even on that stuff, so the part of the climb where it's a 40% grade is just fucking killer. I'm addicted
