List any issues you've experienced with an Ebb and Flow
    #429612 -

I have recently got the Ebb and Grow system and I like it's design, but I've already run into 2 issues. I didn't know if anyone had anything else to add but here are my issues below.

1.) pump in controller bucket went out.
This caused the controller bucket to always be filled (pots filled) this also caused the water in the controller bucket to become hot to the touch. Result - plants were over watered, and the branches started sticking almost straight up, before death.

2.) pump inside controller bucket came off hose.
This caused the controller bucket to always be filled up (pots filled as well) again with the hot water, all it was doing was circulating itself in the controller bucket. I stuck my hand in there and felt the current of water. Result - plants over watered again, this time they did not survive.

I went on vacation and came home to this happening. Bogue
Anything else?

Tray overflows, make sure your emergency drain is always clear
Salt buildups, flush weekly is my thing
Mold/algae growth on the trays leading to bacteria problems, always flush
circuts blowing and my plants not getting water
roots clogging the tubes

I think thats it

Well if your circuits are blowing your not paying attention to how many amps your running on each circuit.  That can only be blamed on you not paying enough attention and failing to recognize that your overloading the wiring where you grow.

You should always run new wiring on circuits that are dedicated solely to the grow room.

I hear you there bro.  I just ran and extension cord out of the room door and into the next room.:lolsy:  Laziest way to go about overloading the circuit...

Yo hawks, they blew because my stupid friend pluged a 2000w dj setup into a neighboring socket and blew it. I was not stupid so go to hell for jumping on me. :boot:

Well, that's why I say run dedicated wiring when growing indoors.  It's really the best way to go man.  Then you don't have to worry about what other people are putting on that circuit.

Your telling this guy that a problem with ebb and flow is it's not reliable and you can end up having plants that don't get water.  When that's not the truth if you plan appropriately before you grow.

1.  Having to constantly empty and refill the resevoir to avoid nutrient lockup issues.  When you do not have a water source or drain in your room it is a massive pain in the ass.  Even if you do, it is still a pain in the ass.

2.  Getting rid of rockwool waste.

3.  Algae buildup happens sometimes.

4.  Cleaning the tray and resevoir after every crop.

5.  Dealing with the sheer size of the trays.  If your room is small it is a pain in the ass to maneuver everything as you clean the stuff or refill the resevoir.

I literally spend hours doing #1 and #4.  I am going back to soil.

Thanks guys.
I understand some of you are talking about a flood table. I was mainly talking about the bucket system.

I will take all advice seriously. thanks!

use a ebb-and-flow tray filled with buckets, the only pump you have to worry about is the single pump from your res to your table; and if you properly maintain and clean it there shouldnt be a problem. Ive been using the same fountain pump i got from home depot for this purpose for four years running, cleaning my res every other week and it still works great. I do agree alittle with Mr. Hands, i was close to going back to soil till i remembered having to water each lady one by one, and the nats, god i hate nats

How do your roots clog the tubes? Do they out grow their pots? Would the air not prune them back?

I have had roots grow out of the drainage pipe and clog them causing a backup. Since the water was still flowing over them, they continued to grow.

MAYBE I could believe you if you said you were using a multiflow or if you were growing in a loose bed of hydrotron or whatever medium. I've never see roots grow outside the pots in a ebb and flow system. I'm not calling you a liar, I'm just saying you claim such a thing which is highly improbable.

It was an adapted aero-setup. It was like a normal fence post aero system except it just filled and drained, pumped in one end, went out the other but the drain cut was only an inch and clogged.

Btw, I didn't mean a pot system, just ebb&flo in general

The topic is tray ebb and flow?

So you flooded a fence post with some pots on one of the sides? Wouldn't that allow for like 4" of root space?

You got un-lucky and got a bad pump shit happens. Hate to put  it that way but that's about all you can do.

The hose thing I've had and they sell these clips that I use on all the hoses at the connections at the control buckets. This will make the hoses coming off impossible.
