Yah, I'm sort of excited too.  I'm just dreading dealing with the heat.  It was 88 F in my cab until 11 pm last night (about 4 hours of light in high heat).  Clones are a little stretched due to laziness and an extreme need for new T5 bulbs.  I needed to get a project going though so I could have a harvest before the summer is up to restock for the fall (plus I wanted to be able to give an 1/8 to all the people I chill with during football season).

Anyways, hope it won't be much of a problem and hopefully a pH imbalance won't hurt me like last grow.

I fed last night 4 ml FNG 3 ML FNB and watered them through this time instead of just getting the area around the roots.  When I opened the cab up all of the new growth was a very light green.  So either they weren't getting enough food, or, possible light bleaching.  So I hit them again with some full strength stuff but made sure to soak a little heavier.  I seem to remember similar problems with my first LA run, I guess I'll know in a few days either way

Fed tonight 1/2 tsp FNB 1/2 tsp FNG.  Decided to cut back a little because the tips on some fans seemed to be burned.  I think the light green/yellow color of the new growth is just due to how fast these things are growing lol.  They're all greening up nicely and putting on inches fast.

Still Battling temps, current cab temps = 91 right now.

Encouraging that they are going strong at 91f. You supplementing silica?

Can't wait to see some pics of these as they grow. Its the only thing I've been smoking on for the last week straight both of them are really top notch you are going to love it. Fruitier than the LA and IMO finished at least as fast if not faster.

Well last night was the first time I've seen the temps at a constant 90+.  Usually it's just a spike in the beginning of the night and it cools down to low to mid 80's.  We're just dealing with some seriously warm weather right now and I think my AC is struggling a bit to keep the house cool.

Hopefully it's not much of a problem.  The plants are getting plenty of airflow and I'm keeping the lamp a decent distance away to give them some more breathing room.  Unfortunately that's the best I'll be able to do unless I can wrangle up a window AC unit.

Day 7

Figured I'd take a couple of quick pics.  Not much to see really, but they're growing at a nice clip.  Temps have been better past few days since the weather cooled down.  Unfortunately I might be dealing with this a bunch if we have a lot of warm nights.

1/2 tsp snow storm ultra

Lost power for almost an hr on thursday, shouldn't be much of an issue but I was sweating it pretty hard when they flicked off.  I'm noticing a marked difference between the two moms.  The mom I liked from the beginning is giving me the node spacing and branching I want.  The other mom is a bit lankier, looks more sativaish, and not as many branching sites as the other clones.

Fed Last night
1/2 tsp fng
1/2 tsp fnb
1 tsp kool bloom liquid
1/2 tsp snow storm ultra

Plants are looking good, seems like every time I feed them they put on a few more inches lol.  Amazing how quickly cannabis can grow sometimes.  The buds are all starting to develop nicely, leaves are all a nice healthy shady of green, and no problems to report.  Pretty much smooth sailing so far, next week I'll be removing the FNG from the feeding schedule, adding in some kool bloom dry, and increasing the dosage of FNB to at least a tsp if not 8 mls.

I'll try and get another couple of quick photos up tonight when the lights flip on.

No problem.  I'm unsure as to whether or not I'm overfeeding them.  2-3 large fans on the middle plant in the first pic are yellowing, the plants in the last set of pics are a little yellow too.  I doubt it's underfeeding because I'm hitting them hard.  I took mag's feeding schedule and slightly modified it because I felt it was too strong.  At this point I'm wondering if even my dosages are too strong for my plants.  It's quite possible I've caused a lockout, so to be sure the next watering (thur night) will be plain with a tbsp of clearex.  I might give them an additional plain watering, or at least a watering with a light dose of food (1/4 tsp FNG 1/4 tsp Kool Bloom, touch of Kool Bloom dry).

I'm still trying to figure this one out, my LA's exhibited the same problems but I thought it was due to a pH imbalance.  Seeing as I'm checking the calibration of my pH pen fairly often I can scratch that one off the list.  Next grow I think I'm going to lighten the feeding schedule even more and see if the same problems show up.  I also think a PM to CrustyOldBastard is in order to see if his KB's and LA's showed the same problems.

Anyways, that's about it, I've been happy with their growth so far.  They got a bit taller then I'd like and unless I SCROG or SOG it I think 4 plants is really the limit of my cabinet.  I'd looooove to do these plants in a SCROG as the branching is awesome, and like Crusty had pointed out, seems this strain is definitely geared towards a SCROG (with the LA's being a better SOG strain).  Oh, yah, this weekend I'll be picking up a little more perlite and popping the OG 18 x Skunk #1 seeds this weekend.  Planning on using them for my fall run.  After this grow completes I'll take a two week break from flowering while the buds dry, so right around the beginning of September I plan on flowering the OG's.  This way I can get a nice Christmas Chronic harvest in, dried, and cured before the holidays and take a nice month long break from growing.  Sometimes you don't realize how much of a job it is until you start flowering plants lol.

I had the same problem with nutrients on previous grows. I just lowered the ppms and added a little extra cal/mag 2-0-0 to my mix and my girls stay real healthy and green. I dont know if its my strains or what, but anything above 750ppm and my girls start to burn. I have been changing my res's almost daily on this run, keep in mind my res is only 5 gal. I start with a fresh batch of nutrients at 750ppm/5.8ph. I let the girls dig in until my ppms drop to 500 or below and change the res. This process usually takes about 24hours and the ph will climb as high as 6.6(high for hydro)and then I change the res and start over. Also, if my ph starts to drop instead of raise, I change the res right away no matter what the ppms are at. This has been working very well for me. And you might think its wasting nutrients, but to get to my desired ppms i put a 1.5gal formula in a 5gal bucket. I dont know if you can check all of these readings in hempy(unfamiliar with it) but if you can, you might want to for sure drop the ppms and maybe get a little more N in there.

Re: KB x Skunk Log [Re: Integra21]

I can only test the solution, since hempy is a water to waste system there really is no res.  The little res which does exist is inaccessible and that water is usually absorbed pretty quickly.  I don't even think it's possible to test the pH of the medium considering it's perlite and insoluble in water.

I really think it's overfeeding, I'll break out the pH pen and start measuring, but last I remember my current dosages of nutes put me in the 1400 range which is really high.  When I get my next grow going I'll try to keep it sub 1000 and see if that helps, I'm really tired of my fans burning out before I even hit the 1/2 way point of flowering.  All that lost energy, it sucks.

They are looking great. Its been a long time since I checked this journal and the growth didn't disappoint.

Agree with both of you about keeping ppms in the 800-1000 range. I haven't exceeded 1000 for several grows now and try to keep it around 750-850 for the most part. Before I might have bumped up to 1300 and then flushed, but now I'll go 1000 followed by 500 or something similar.

Can't wait to see these and the OG #18 x Skunk later on sounds like it will be a good summer for ya. :sun:

Thanks for the compliments   Ok, well looks like we all agree on the problem here lol.  I'll break out the PPM meter and fuck around and see if I can come up with something that will keep me under 1000, but still use all the ferts I want to use

First two pics are two separate leaves, these are probably the most heavily damaged.  I see some others that look to be heading in that direction as well, but I think I'll be able to save them somewhat.  Figured while I was snapping some damage pics I'd take a couple more of the girls and get some close up bud shots.

Thanks, I do too, I'm pretty sure it will.  I am flushing tonight and switching to an every other day watering cycle.  This particular strain seems to be pretty thirsty, maybe it's just the height, but the buckets are light after a night.  So I think two waterings with some clearex and then another modification of my feeding strength and I should be back on track with just a few scarred fans to show.

Shouldn't be a major issue, but I hate losing good leaves over carelessness.

Ok, I've come up with a mix that puts me right under 900 PPM with my tap water

1/2 tsp FNB
1 Tsp KoolBloom Liquid
1/4 tsp KoolBloom Dry

= 851 PPM

I was feeding between 1300-1400 PPM before so this will be a good drop in strength.  The FNB is pretty strong and if it was all I used I'm sure I wouldn't have had these problems.  So hopefully this mix will be a bit easier on the girls and they'll bounce back soon.  The problem over took them pretty quickly and all of the plants are not looking happy right now.

I'll be feeding all plants tonight with the above solution, next two waterings will include gravity so I'll probably nix the KoolBloom and just use the 1/2 tsp of FNB.

EDIT: Plants fed, fingers crossed

Looks like I'm dealing with a P/K deficiency right now because of the N overdose.  I'm wondering if I should hit them with a higher dose of the kool bloom dry and nix the liquid for a feeding or two, or just keep on the same feeding course as the last time.

I'll get some pics up of the problem later, didn't think the site was going to come back up tonight.

Day 36

Fed tonight
1/2 tsp FNB
1 tsp Kool Bloom Liquid
1/4 tsp Kool Bloom Dry

PPM's were in the 900's, maybe I went a little too heavy with the kool bloom dry.  It was under 1000 and if I managed to unlock the SOB's they need the P and K anyways.

So there you have it, my grow in all it's miserable glory lol.  I'm planning on tacking on at least a week to my estimated finish time, so now I'll be harvesting on 8/21 at the earliest.  I should be able to salvage a somewhat decent harvest from this.  As long as I can pull in a QP I'm happy, anything else is just bonus lol.

The tall girls that are on the left in my cab shots seem to have been hit the worst.  The purpling on one of them is unreal lol. I like seeing purple like that but usually around day 60 or so heh.

So that's it, right at the 1/2 way point still plenty of time to bulk up the buds and get them looking prettier

It wont let me look at any of the pics in details, only thumbs, but your girls looked starved for N. What is fng and what ratio's of nutrients are you running. I would personally try to get the ppms nice and low and get a slightly higher N ratio in the mix. something along the lines of 10-12-12 at 750 ppms. I personally have great luck adding N whenever I want with Magical. It is a cal/mag suppliment with a 2-0-0 and my girls seem to love it. They are starting to perk up though so you must be heading in the right direction. Keep up the progress and Im sure you'll still have a nice yield of some frosty buds.

Excuse me that should be FNB (Flora Nova Bloom) and it's NPK is 4-8-7.
Kool Bloom Liquid 0-10-10
Kool Bloom Dry 2-45-28

I'm at the point where I'm going to be cutting the Kool Bloom liquid out and increasing the dosage of the dry.  Looks like I should be set on N IMO.  I didn't want to go overboard and give them high doses of food again because I figured that's counterproductive and would end me up in the same position I am now.

Don't know why my pictures won't expand.  Possibly too many photos in my gallery.

EDIT: Pics should work now, must have been something funky with the upload last night.

well besides some of the more affected leaves finally dying off, they haven't gotten any worse lol.  I guess they're getting better, but nothing major really.  I'll get some pics up by next weekend.

I dont know if this works with soil or hempy, but with my dwc, if O need to green them back up, a little extra N to the mix and for one or two days I make the ph swing nice and low, normal for me is between 5.8-6.1 but I make it drop to 5.1-5.2 and you can visably green your leaves back up and bring much better state of health back. I have used this method 3 times on 2 different strains with only great results. But being its hemp and that I have never grown your buds, if you decide to try this out, I would definetly recommend checking on them every hour for the first few hours and checking as often as possible to make sure you didnt piss them off more. But once youve done it a couple of times, there is generally no need to check.

Yah, I dunno what I want to do.  A big part of me is saying hands off and let's see what happens, but the other is saying hit them up with more nutes.  I'm hoping the more aggressive feeding schedule will help perk them up more quickly.

Plants are doing as well as they can I suppose.  The main colas are getting nice and fat and the rest of the buds are golfball size or larger so I can't complain too much.  I'm going to ditch the tall lanky KB and keep the other for my keeper.  Depending on how lucky I get with the OG18 I have just started I might cut the KB out all together.

Day 50

Fed tonight
1/4 tsp FNB
1/2 tsp KB Dry

Buds are looking pretty nice, I clipped off some small popccorn from a branch which was leaning too close to the perlite.  Wasn't much but I trimmed it up and set it to dry.  I'll also be taking a quick look at the trichs as well to get a feel for where they are.  I was planning on giving them an extra week, and I still might, but it looks like they're maturing fairly well.  Anyways, just a couple of quick pics.  Each plant (except the middle one for some reason lol) has two photos in the set above.

Fed Tonight
1/4 tsp FNB
1/2 tsp KB Dry

Took a couple small leaf samples and looked at the trichs tonight.  Majority are cloudy, speckles of clear and amber here and there.  So I made the decision to keep them running on nutes this week, then the final flush and harvest next week on the 21'st.  That will give me a total of 68 days flowering.  Some of the colas are looking nice and fat now, I'll get a pic update again by this weekend at the latest.

Can't wait to put this one to bed and take a break for a bit.

Yeah, it will be nice to start over and keep them healthy, but it looked like you kept them going pretty well. At least you'll have some herb to get you through to the next round. On the up side, it looks like it will be an easy trim.

Yah, it didn't end up too bad.  I'll probably do around an oz per plant which sucks, but it's way more then I'll need for a few months.  Fuck I still have 3 oz's left from my last harvest lol.

I'm probably looking at about 3 hours work to get those buds trimmed up, a little disappointing since I like to make hash with my trimmings.  So the more trim I have the more hash I can smoke, I'll probably toss in a 1/2 oz of some C grade buds with the trim to make up the difference.

Began the final flush this week in prep for harvest next saturday.  15 mls of clearex to a gallon of water.  Each plant got about a 1/2 gal of water.  I'll get some pics up tomorrow.  Just formatted my hard drive and don't have a picture editor at the moment lo..

Harvested yesterday, more fluff bud then I would like but not much I can do about it.  Learned that it's also not a good idea to trim the day after you take a bunch of e with your gf lol.  I'll have to go back over them once they dry and clean up.  I will say that my god did they make my house smell yesterday, i'd leave to go smoke a cig and as soon as I made it back in it smelled like I murdered a skunk in my house

Soon as it's dry I'll post a final weight and complete the log.

initial weight is 211.2 grams or 7.5 oz's.

I'll probably lose an 1/8 or so from water that's still in there.  The buds were super crispy on the outside, but the small stems were still really chewy.  I dry by hanging until the buds are crunchy on the outside (3-4 days), then I jar them for 12-24 hours to draw out moisture from the inside.  Once the buds feel wet again I toss them in a paper bag for 12-24 hours.  Then they go back in the jar.  Then I keep checking each day, if I feel like I can start the burping process I do so.  If not, they go back in the bag for another 12 hours until they are ready for the final curing process.  It's a PITA, but it's what's worked the best for me.

I think that the problems I ran into put me much further behind schedule then I thought.  The buds just feel too immature honestly, don't think this will be a very potent smoke.  As much as I'm satisfied with my final yield, what bothers me is i KNOW i could have yielded at least 2-3 more zips easy if not for my fuck up.  I also think I will begin a more severe pruning process in flowering after the two week growth spurt.  The popcorn on the LA was minimal, on the Kushberry it's a lot more prevalent.  I have a good amount of juicy buds, but there's just too much fluff for my liking.  So I'll have to pay attention to the more branchy plants in the future and remove a lot of the undergrowth.

I'm not sure if I'll be keeping this plant around, the one mom I got sick of and killed (the lanky looking girls on the left of the cab), cloned the other and kept her for a friend.  So the genetics will be around for a while anyways with my buddy if I decide to ditch it.  Anyways, that pretty much sums up this grow.  I'll try to remember to weigh the buds again to see how much more moisture I lost and post it up.

potency is not bad so far, think the LA packs a little more punch.  The KB is a bit more buzzy.  Smoked some of it yesterday as my first smoke of the day and it was enjoyable.  For only a couple of days in the jar it tasted pretty good and is already pretty aromatic.

Not the best, but not bad, I'll probably have one more go at it before I decide if I want to ditch it or not.

Coda, how's that kushberry now after a month in the jar?  and is it still kind of a "buzzy" (I like that sometimes)?

Great read.

Depends on how much you smoke really, it got a little more body to it after some curing time but I still think the LA is stronger.  I have a kushberry flowering again so if all goes well I'll know if I'm keeping the strain around come thanksgiving.
