i'm certainly not jewish to please my family, and I don't actively practice anything as I think organized religion in general is stupid. My parents are a mixed mariage and they could care less if I married outside the tribe or not.
I identify culturally as Jewish, and I have a Jewish mindset and way of looking at things/approaching logical problems. The extent of my Jewish practice is going to a passover seder once a year and celebrating a few of the 8 nights of chanukah. (in reality chanukah is an unimportant holiday in the Jewish religion)
It's celebration is more of an american tradition and response to the commercialization of christmas. It's an excuse to give jewish kids presents so they don't feel left out and resent being jews and not christians. Since I still have a little sister who is young, we celebrate it otherwise we would just ignore it.

Gotta be careful. I always do the push-down pop-up method to fling my bagels out of the toaster.
I'm sure it shortens the life of the toaster greatly. But I gotta get my toast.

yeah see mine is one of those toaster/ovens that load from the front and not top-down. So i have to either get something to protect my hand and try and slide the tray out, or just risk burning my hand and try and scoop the bagels up directly.
I chose the latter and paid the price, but in the end the bagel, (topped with smoked salmon of course) was delicious and I won.

Smoked  is one of my favorite foods period. I smoke as many salmon as I can every fall, people eat it faster than I can smoke it.
