High elevation growing on a Mountain
    #421919 - 05/22/10 01:26 AM (13 years, 10 months ago)

Hey Guys,

I've got some experience growing, but I'm starting a new project on a piece of land that is about 8000+ feet in elevation on a mountain. So I was wondering what are the added risks, challenges, and things to be aware of for mountain growing. Is it possible for outdoor growing? Sometimes there is snow in June up here...

Also, Is it too late now to start growing up here? I don't have any seeds/clones started and I don't have any indoor equipment to get them pre-grown. I'm on Mountain standard time (which gives you an idea for location) and I just wanted to know when is to late to start.

All advice and comments are appreciated! Thanks in advance!

- MacTavish

I fyou start a grow at that altitude your going to be asking for it to get hit by frost.  The best way to do it at that height is in a green house.  Your also going to want to get a strain that finishes up quickly, winter will come quick at those altitudes.

Yeah, the temperature will be an issue. We do get random 30-50 degree weather some nights from June through August. And those are the warm months! Is a greenhouse really the only option here?

Are there ways to protect the plants from colder temperatures?

Another thing I am worried about are the high winds up here.. whats the best way to shield my plants from getting damaged by the wind?

Well in early stages of growth you can keep them covered up at night with empty milk just and what not.  But they get too big to efficiently cover them in anyway.  And your going to have to uncover them as well.  So if your ding an outdoor grow that's not at your house, your going to have a lot of traveling to and from your grow site.

Maybe you should think about growing indoors.

eh, I don't have the start up capital to dedicate to an indoor grow. I was hoping I could pull off this outdoor mountain grow. Btw, what temperature do MJ plants cease growing? Isn't it like 50ish?
