Is there any negatives/ danger in smoking opium off poppy for pain releif/relaxation occasionally ~2-3 a month. just straight up plant

2-3 times a month would probably be alright but i wouldn't do much more to that. If you do feel yourself needing more of it definitely take an extended break, or at the very least switch to something milder and pharmaceutical. But quitting altogether would be the better idea.
From what i have heard about opium is that because of all the alkaloids in it, you get addicted to so many chemicals that the withdrawls are the worst of anything.

IMO, anything that doesn't have short-term deadly effects is fine 
If you honestly feel that you are in control, and can REALLY stop at any time (saying you can stop, and actually being able to stop are two different things)...then its up to you.
Its your call. Only you know if you "need" it.

Like I said, thats in my opinion. I dunno. I've never been addicted to anything, nor have I felt any withdrawals. I am a casual observer and nothing more.
I've had a little bit of trouble with some stuff, but I was always able to moderate myself. I know thats not the case with everyone, but I'm willing to bet that even the most addicted person in the world said to himself "I wonder if I should stop, I can tell this is going to get bad", ya know?
I've seen my friends go through it. Its a terrible thing to watch. Thankfully, they all kicked it before it was detrimental to them.

Stay away from them at all costs. Unless you have some kind of surgery or something and absolutely positively have to have them because you've got a gash in you the size of a 20 inch rim, stay the fuck away.
Note- I never got too bad, but it was getting there fast, trust me. Saw where it was going and the people around me and was like fuck this shit.

so if I grew an opium poppy bush I should only use very occasionally for extreme pain relief ?? I have migraine problems and I get one every few months that's what I was thinking of using it for ..

Well first off, Poppies are not bushy at all. They grow one main stem with a pod on top, and if you plan on smoking it that much, you had better roto-til up the entire yard and pack em as tight as you can because you literally have to plant like 1/2 acre or more to make it worth it IMHO.
I'd just grow a field if it, IF I WERE to do such a thing... Someone should trade me some Papaver Som. seeds, I'd like to give that a go. I have more than enough space.

Na dude I'd grow a few clumps so they grew bushy like in the poppy tutorial thread , I woukd just want to be able to cut some pods smoke a little with some bud if I had a migraine, every 2-3 months maybe, I'd make tea
