thats what i used for my plants. it goes through a few different filters including reverse osmosis and UV light. the pH is about 7.5 for the most part according to my pH meter. it works, but i think pH down would be useful when feeding plain water. i want to buy a reverse osmosis machine for my next grow.
I read that the more ppm that is naturally in your water, the more waste water you will have when filtering. I read a reviewer who said he had seven gallons of waste water for every gallon of good water he got.
