cuttin clones...where you at coda?
    #367332 - 02/18/10 01:54 PM (14 years, 1 month ago)

I remember reading a post where you used perlite with your clones. I went out and picked up a dome similar to the size of yours. It's got circular vents on top. I already have a giant bag of perlite so I figured why not give it a whirl.  Maybe I'm just being a tard,  but for some reason I can' t find the thread that you posted a pic of your dome in.

I got some rockwool and peat pellets. I would like to try both in perlite.  I also picked up a solution to soak the rockwool cubes in and then water with.  I think I have everything I need....I'm not takin cuttings for another week or so though....wanna make sure all my shits together first.  I have never cloned before, so any advice from you or someone with (first hand) experience would be of great help!

You think I could get away without using a heat mat? The average temp my grow room is only 72-74 degrees.

The heat mat could be optional but having those bottoms nice and warm seems to be the key to fast rooting.

and here is the coda's AF grow log, he used the hempy's here I think thats what you are lookin for

He used the perlite with his humidity dome I believe. I think he filled the tray with perlite and then put the clones in (clones were in peat pellets). Thanks though.

Oh yeah I know exactly what you mean now. The perlite is to keep the RH up.

here is a pic of mine, same thing

Did you cover it up as well?  How did it work for you? What was your average rh? (If it was covered)

yes you have to cover it up, I had roots in 7 to 10 days and the RH stayed at 99% all week without adding any water, plus the peat pellets stayed moist to. prolly would have any ways though.

I never even saw the leave droop after i put em in there they stayed nice and perky.

Is this what you were talking about?  I think you have it down, hydrate perlite, place in bottom of tray, place clones on top of perlite (I like to dig em a little bit to keep them stable), put the lid on, and let sit.

Works like a charm, I usually see roots within 7-10 days although my current clone run is being another PITA again.  As for the heating mat, ambient temps aren't as important as root zone temps. The heating mat is completely optional unless you're trying to clone in a meat locker.  Just keep in mind that if your root zone temps dip too far below 75 you'll see some slower rooting times and increased cloning failures.  I try to keep the dome at around 78-80 degrees.  Also keep in mind that with a heating mat your perlite will dry out quicker then without.  So at least pop your head in every day, soon as you start seeing the droplets on your dome start to dissipate, dump a little more water over the perlite and close the lid again.

Sweeeeeeeeeeet.  That is exactly what I was looking for!

Maybe I will opt for the heat mat.  Thanks coda.
