im trying to download a windows update. when i try to download it, i get a "required section not present in the activation context" message. i have no idea what that means. any help???? maybe i could turn something off or on to let the update go through? i'm trying to download it so i can download another update.

secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\repair\secsetup.inf /db secsetup.sdb /verbose /areas regkeys

Did you try to google the error message in its entirety? That will usually bring up a fix... Also, sometimes you can just download the update you need instead of going through windows update. Try download.com, or even the microsoft site, they might have it.

Can't guarantee it's not malware, but the file name and size match up 
They only had a network installer for xp sp2 on the microsoft site....
