Camping alone
    #34293 - 05/19/08 08:48 PM (15 years, 10 months ago)

All my friends either suck or have to work during the weekdays. Ive been itching to go hiking and camp out for awhile now. Would you go hiking and camping alone, why or why not? Hopefully I will have a nice dose of mushrooms for this time and plenty of marijuana to smoke.

I think as long as I bring my hunting knife I should be alright, opinions please

I've gone backpacking by myself a lot of times. You'll be alright.

If you're an experienced camper this shouldn't be difficult, but make sure you have plans in place for rescue if something doesn't work out. Be sure you tell a couple people exactly where you're going and when you expect to return so if you get lost or injured they know an appropriate amount of time to wait for your return.

Of course bring maps, compass, a weapon and food and I think you'll be fine.

im an experience hiker, not so much a camping expert. but I will give it a shot

ill probably end up staying a camp site but id be surprised if there are other people around in the middle of the week.

should be fun, I thinking I might run over to California if I can find a cool spot in southern cali that isnt too far from here

All above advice is great, also don't hike outside your limits or take on unfamiliar terrain.

First time I went solo backpacking, it was up Mt Rainier on a trail I didn't know. Was only about 6miles in, but it was also at 5,200ft at the campsite.

Didn't sleep a wink due to a weak sleeping bag, paced myself too fast, and had to leave a day early or face exhaustion.

Once I quit being a dumbass, it's been great.

Yeah I will be sure to plan out supplies very well. I will be taking on some new area but thats the whole point.

If anyone knows of any cool places to hike in the Southwest, US please let me know. Id like to limit it to either Arizona or California but im open to other suggestions

I would go backpacking alone but a campsite might be fun alone if your just wanting to get away from work

do you know of any cool state parks in southern cali? I have never been to california so anywhere with some decent scenery would be awesome. Id like to keep it within 8 hours from Phoenix if possible.

fuck I just checked the weather as a cover-all-basis knowing that in Arizona we havent had rain in weeks and its been over 100 lately. no its going to be storming for 3 days this coming week with high temperatures in the upper 50's.

I got to postpone my trip a week, unless I come up with a new location :crankey:

Exactly, I already had a 1/2 ounce packed and ready. It sucks that I have to wait another week, but perhaps my buddy will be able to join me now.
