Digital use a little less power to do the same thing. They are silent. The bulbs just click on to full power without a warmup time. They run cooler. Better all around.

Me too. I went out and shopped for one today at my local hydro store.
Lumateks run about 189 for a 400W, any recommendations for a less expensive model that is equal in quality?

I'm sure there are some out there but I'm fond of Lumatek and I'll stick with them till I have a reason not to or find something better.

ive thought about buying the whole setup together. right now theyre 15% off all HID systems. so i think im going to throw down and get a 400 watt HPS system.

I've got 2 lumatek 600W ballasts and I love them. I've pretty much never used the dimming or "super-lumens" feature because I'm sure it burns out the bulb much faster, but it's still pretty cool for them to be dim-able and whatnot

that just sounds stupid as hell to do. order grow equpiment online AND use a "growery coupon" there. thats just too shady. it screams "IM GROWING MARIJUANA!!!! COME GET ME!!!"
ill stick with buying stuff from a store in cash.

Good point Pilze. However depending where your from just going into a "garden" store is way more risky than ordering anything online. I get quite a few customers that would much rather pay shipping to have their items shipped across town than simply stop in and pick them up.
I did change the coupon code though.

i dont trust the interwebz. id rather go in get it, get out, leave, drive around. and move my grow equipment around before setting it up at its grow site.
i dont need a paper trail leading to me for grow equipment...
in n out of a store is THE way to go IMO.

My ballast for a 1000 watt hps is super hot all the time. Metal box encasement and really hot to touch it. Is this normal?

on another note for awesome digital ballasts, I just fed my plants a dose of Gravity which generally requires you to raise your HPS light by a foot or two and stop nutes to prevent serious burns to your plants. With my lumatek ballasts I can just turn the dimmer knob down to 50% or 75% and only raise it a little bit to still get safe results
