hey ______, can you ask a question about seed selectivity at the growery? Mainly I wanted to ask about a plant budding and becoming fertilized, and producing seeds. I wanted to know if the seeds would grow differently out of a thousand, especially based on the parents of the plants. If you had a thousand, would 300 die? would 300 grow slowly? would 300 grow moderately? would 90 of them grow quickly? and would 10 be almost impossible to stop growing in regular conditions without any type of weather, insect, animal or fungus killing them? I'm just curious as to why so many of these plants grow two feet in six months, and why some will grow 6 feet in three months? anyway, let me know, peace......

genetics is just a grab bag quite frankly.
Just picture it this way; inside every strand of DNA (for every living organism on the planet) there is an extremely wide range of physical genotypes (known as, surprise, phenotypes). for everyone who is exactly 6 feet tall their DNA contains the potential for their offspring to be anywhere from 5 to 7 feet tall, and this random variation and mutation persists for every single physical attribute. When reproduction occurs the assorted phenotypes are shuffled across the chromatids and the expressed traits is literally like pulling the lever on a slot machine.
So yes, the original message was correct. The vast majority of the offspring will contain a nice medial blend of possible traits, rather middle of the road if you will. alternately, there are instances where the offspring will luck out and contain a very impressive assortment of outcomes, ya know, that kid who was good at everything without even trying.
