kind of a gay n00b question

When a strain says 22% thc content, does that mean that 22% of the total plant weight is going to be resin, or that 22% of the active alkaloids in the resin is THC... leaving 78% other alkaloids?
cause I've seen white widow, trainwreck and other amazing strains listed at only 11% thc, and far less awesome strains listed at 22%... so I'm wondering if that's a measurement of concentration within the trichromes, or total plant weight (ie, 1oz of bud will yield 1/4oz of hash)

No dude I think percentage is based on percentage of bud that is composed of trichromes
and yea I have heard around 12-15% for widow and similar high grade strains, I dont think I've seen 22 %

usg is right, all marketing, i know ive seen og kush listed at 30 something percent in ed rosenthals medical marijuana handbook. but keep in mind their are numerous other canabinoids that effect the high as opposed to just thc(which is the most active)..

Word. I knew it was all marketing since obviously the most important factor in determining potency is the upbringing of the plant, but I was curious as to what exactly they were trying to sell.
and jrjr- I know there's other cannibinoids that affect the high, that's why I was secretly hoping they had performed some sort of titration or mass spectroscopy to determine the average alkaloid makeup of the different strains.

yup, plus just because someone grows something with 20+% THC, doesn't mean you can or you will. there are many factors that can effect this.
seed banks just use it for marketing purposes. some don't even do any tests, and no one checks their claims.
