Succulents
    #100950 - 08/02/08 03:35 PM (15 years, 7 months ago)

here's my favorite.  i believe it's a Sedum reflexum, my sister gave me a single leaf from her plant several months ago.  it's amazing to watch a leaf sprout roots and grow into a new plant.

here it is about 6 weeks ago.

and here it is now.

the leaves are extremely solid and actually surprisingly sharp at the ends.  the whole plant is dense and not flexible at all.  a cool little plant.

that's true, all cacti are succulents but succulents are never cacti...
confusing huh?

to add to the confusion some succulents don't have true leaves and have spines instead, and then some cacti do have true leaves...

what makes a cactus a cactus is that only cacti have aeroles.

hoodia gordonii - succulent.

pereskiopsis - cactus.

epiphytum hybrid - cactus.

the ones that also fooled me before were euphorbia, some of them even *look* like they have areoles, but they dont.

nice hoodia, that your plant?

wow that's a nice little succulent!

these things always surprise me too, if you've never seent cacti or succulents flower it's always a surprise and only after seeing a lot of them you get some idea of what it might look like!

i wish i had better pictures for this one but that's all i got. today it looks really bad though
it will come around in summer i'm sure, it goes from amazing like in these photos to really poor, you've got to keep transferring it from pot to pot :smirk:

simisu, the color on those plants is gorgeous.

i think that once the weather warms up, we should get a succulent trade thread up in here or the lot, where we could all trade around leaves/cuttings of our favs

:awesome:
