Came across something that gave me an idea

I was out and about on errands and saw a cluster of these growing in a parking lot median. I doubt they are what I thought they might be, but it got me thinking; perhaps plants that look similar to it could be used as a sort of cover crop to prevent rippers. Any thoughts?

I'd be concerned that the plants were invasive. You'd probably be better off growing something like the freakshow strain, which resembles a fern.
