Problem with DEL panel
    #833315 - 06/05/18 10:17 AM (5 years, 9 months ago)

Hi , couple of month ago i bought two 180w panel in NL , before that i have quite good results with two CFL 200w in a little box (120cm x 60cm x 160cm) but since i come to DEL leaves of the top of plants become white from the center ... sorry no photos ...    temp is 26 day and 21 night, good vent and extraction... panels are at 30-40cm from the canopy. Plants are always in plagron Light mix with not high dose of fertiliser... i dont know what’s happen!!! Maybe a Light burn but seriously? 360w of DEL is that much powerful than 400w of CFL ???
Thanks for your answers!!!

Are DEL lights just LED backwards or what?

My best guess is the new lights you are using are the wrong spectrum for growing. I've had plants turn white like that because the lights failed while I was away. Try adding back the CFL lights to see if that is your issue.

Not knowing which LED panel you have.  I'd guess bleaching is your problem. This tends to happen when the light is to close to the top of the plant.
And Yes most likely the LED is that much stronger than the CFL. Most of the light from a CFL is wasted or unusable by the plant.  LEDs were made to have very little to no wasted or unusable light.

LED lights produce 40 to 100 lumen per watt. HPS produced 50 tp 140 lumen per watt. LED lights still produce less light and more heat per watt then HPS lights sorry but the facts remain.

"Well, direct outside daylight in the summertime averages somewhere in the neighbourhood of 10,000 foot candles. This is equal to 10,000 lumens per square foot. If you compare this to the output of our thousand watt metal halide bulb earlier, we can see that the sun does a pretty good job.

Quote:

Lumens per square foot: Minimum amount of lighting needed is around 2000 lumens per square foot. Mid range is around 5000 lumens per square foot. Optimal is 7000-7500, or higher, lumens per square foot.

http://www.growmedical420.com/how-many-lumens-or-watts-per-square-foot-of-light-do-i-need/

FYI bleaching is caused by heat not excess lighting and I have never seen it happen unless a plant is touching a 400 watt bulb.

Have a nice day.:volcano:

I've told you before lumens is worthless to plants. It's all about PAR.

Google Hash Tips and you'll find tons of bleaching caused by LEDs. It's not a new thing. :smirk:

The weather is beautifull and the fish are biting. A nice day I am having.

For information I have two 180W Hans Panel by Bonsaï Hero. I have try to dimm to 60% power when i see first signs on the leaves but surely too late...
in Grow mode (90w per panel) there is no problem but when i turn Bloom mode on (full power 180W per panel) it’s getting wrong

Oh trout? Are you a fly fisher or spinner? Man I love fresh fried trout.

BTW any source of light can overheat your plants causing bleaching. :rasta:

his Optimized Spectrum Metal Halide Grow Lamp allows you to stretch your growing season to 365 days a year. Fine-tune your lighting system to provide optimum spectral energy levels that promote vigorous plant growth. Optimized Spectrum Metal Halide Grow Lamps provide high initial and maintained lumen output with optimum spectral energy required for vegetative growth. Optimized Spectrum Metal Halide Grow Lamps are designed to grow high quality, natural looking plants during all phases of their growth cycles.

1. High output, balanced spectrum is engineered specifically to promote vigorous plant growth.
2. Robust stainless steel armature versus nickel plated steel, far stronger and longer lasting.
3. Optimized spectrum (Violet and Blue) and high PAR (Photosynthetic Active Radiation) to enhance vegetative growth
4. Extra-low lumen depreciation: maintaining over 90% of initial lumen output after running for 5,000 hours.
5. Fusion Bright bulbs work well with both Magnetic and Digital Ballasts.
Specifications:
400 Watts
36,000 Lumens
4000 Color Temp
CRI: 80
Glass Size BT36
Base E39

Sorry but HID grow bulbs have higher PAR ratings then LED lights.

And yes the 400 watt grow bulb is only $15.99 Canadian.

This Super HPS (High Pressure Sodium) grow lamp allows you to stretch your growing season to 365 days a year. Fine-tune your lighting system to provide optimum spectral energy levels that promote vigorous plant growth. Super HPS grow lamps provide up to 15% more available energy for plant growth than the standard high pressure sodium lamp. Super HPS grow lamp's enhanced spectral energy distribution is designed to grow a wider variety of plants.

1. Ceramic insulation plate for better insulation and performance.
2. High output, balanced spectrum is engineered specifically to promote vigorous plant growth.
3. Robust stainless steel armature versus nickel plated steel, far stronger and longer lasting.
4. Optimized spectrum (Red and Yellow) and high PAR (Photosynthetic Active Radiation) to enhance flowering.
5. Extra-low lumen depreciation: maintaining over 90% of initial lumen output after running for 5,000 hours.
6. Fusion Bright bulbs work well with both Magnetic and Digital Ballasts.

Specifications:
400 Watts
53,500 Lumens
2000 Color Temp
CRI: 20
Glass Size TD46
Base E39

While the HPS HID will run you $16.99.

BTW LED lights dim over time.

Quote:

Lifetime of LED Lighting Products
The useful life of LED lighting products is defined differently than that of other light sources, such as incandescent or compact fluorescent lighting (CFL). LEDs typically do not “burn out” or fail. Instead, they experience ‘lumen depreciation’, wherein the brightness of the LED dims slowly over time. Unlike incandescent bulbs, LED “lifetime” is established on a prediction of when the light output decreases by 30 percent.

https://www.energystar.gov/products/lighting_fans/light_bulbs/learn_about_led_bulbs

FYI I change my HID lights at 10%  of lumen depreciation or 5000 hours. So while LED lose 30% of their light by 25000 I have gone through 5 bulbs and have never lost more then 10% of the lumen production at a cost of 5x15.99 or $79.95 worth of bulbs while a LED owner has to replace the whole unit at $400 plus.

Its an overheating issue move the light futher away and increase your venting. Best of luck.
