Yield Rates, What Do They Mean?
    #832004 - 02/26/18 05:49 PM (6 months, 20 days ago)

Most breeders give a yield rate with their seeds, as far as I have seen.  One question currently comes to mind.  Is that a per plant rate under ideal conditions or is it per square meter of canopy?  Just trying to make some sense of it and possibly get some idea of the level of success of my actual results.  Thanks.

Its like MPG or emissions standards from car manufactures, they use the numbers based on the best possible situation to make their cars look better then the others. Then you have the cheats like VW who take it even further by programing the ECM to falsely improve the numbers during tests.

So are any of the numbers real when it comes to illegal seed breeders who can never be legally sued. Maybe a few but if you want to sell your car and every other car maker claims 100mpg do you tell the truth and never sell a car or do you have to lie?

IMHO yield rates are ok to relatively compare plants from the same breeder but don't expect the same numbers in your own garden.

If you see the words "g/m^2" they're referring to how much a good grower can produce in a square meter with one or more plants. Otherwise they might list it as potential per plant grown to the average height indoors--about 3-5' tall.
