I've done the water/butter boil method a few times, and while it definitely works, the added step of separating the butter from the water is a bit of a pain.  A much better way is to just get a crock pot for $50 at your local department store.  Throw in your butter and weed, set it on warm and let it jive for two days.  Stir occasionally, especially when you first start.  Strain and you're good to go
