I did it with my greenhouse. I bought a heavy duty 9 mil tarp and that worked really well. It was more like 18 mil of thickness since I folded it over. You just need to remove the tarp during the day for 12 hrs then put it back on making sure there's light leaks.
You're gonna have to make a frame around the plants that a tarp can be pulled over. The tarp can come off once it gets dark out so the plants will be under it for only a few hours a day.
PVC pipe is fairly cheap and some kind of tarp should pull it off.
