Ready to finally try my hand..

So I've been on shroomery for more than 10 years, trying all different types of growing methods and strains... I've decided I want to try my hand at something a little more enjoyable and different... So here I am. I am thinking I want to start with a 400watt light and grow tent.. The rest, I have no idea.
I've read about the benefits and pros and cons of soil and hydro... Still not sure what I want to do. Also, where is a good place to get supplies? I don't have any lights, fertilizer, seeds, or anything yet.
Sorry for the noob introduction! Getting started seems to be the hardest part. Thanks in advance guys!

What's the size of the tent you want to use? How many plants do you want?

Most people get supplies at local grow shops or online (Amazon, eBay)...look for an indoor garden or hydroponics store near you.
Seeds though you will have to order online or get through somebody else. Not sure where you are located, but most the big online seedbanks will ship anywhere.
There is a ton of info out there but here is a site I learned a lot from when I started. I like the more structured layout of a website rather than a forum. http://www.growweedeasy.com/

I was looking at a tent that was 3x3 with a 400 watt light. Between 4 and 6 plants. I'm not really sure. I found a kit on htgsupply for a decent price. I've been trying to trade around for the stuff but no luck so this may be the route I go. I'm just not sure whether I should get the hydro kit or the soil kit.

You should buy your stuff yourself. Do research and find the stuff individually, i don't care how cheap the kit is they still need to make a profit, and they pick your supplies you don't.
3x3 is a good size. You could also do 4x4 and use 1000 watts, but it's personal preference. That's just what I would do for the best bang. If I'm gonna do it, I'm gonna do it right?

I flower in a 4x4 with a 600 watt and veg in a 2x4 with a 4' T5. I wouldn't get a 3x3....too small IMO. If you have room there is no reason not to go with a little bigger tent. a 400 watt light also might be a little small for a 4x4, people run up to 1000 in them.
I like soil....never tried hydro, but I think soil is pretty forgiving and easy for a noob. Good luck!

starting out i would stick to the basics ,pro mix ,starting with hydro in the middle of summer is only asking for trouble ,trouble with root rot from warm rez temps is not what you want to be grappling with ,i have switched to pro mix from dwc myself .
another good point that was pointed out was going with a 4x4 instead of a 3x3 ,you can still run a 400w in there and only use 3x3 of the 4x4 text ,but it really gives you the option of running say a 600w if you want to up your game and i would also suggest getting a 600w dimm able light that you can run on 250w ,400w or 600w which give you more option and outs ,i personally think a 1000 watts in a 4x4 tent is to much unless your running ac right into the tent .
another key factor is running a cool tube so you have more control over the temps in the tent which will counter mite infestations .

I'm confused...do you think I'm talking about just a light in a tube with no hood? Cuz that's not what I mean...

You said a "cool tube". That's a wing reflector with a tube that cools the bulb. Those suck and hoods are much better.
