 how soon can you tell strain type?

I have seedlings from an unknown variety. Was some good shit. Had a nice fruity aroma, some purple here n there. Anyways now i have seedlings and was wondering if and when its possible to generally know the strain? Sativa/indica (maybe mix)and possibly the variety just by looking? I know ill have to smell n taste n fun stuff like that for a better idea.

You will be able to tell whether it's indica, sativa or a mix of both but what strain it is will remain a mystery forever

I know a few differences between the two but I'll look more into it. I remember there being a couple other varieties (Afghan maybe?) I forgot. Do you know if other ones are very common or is it mostly just sativa/indica varieties?
