Gemenid Meteor Shower
    #801259 - 12/13/15 09:48 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

Well it peaks tonight/tomorrow morning before dawn. May reach 100/per hour.

I swear though every damn time there's a meteor shower it rains! Don't get me wrong I love the rain, but how is it that near every other day there is no rain, but on the day the meteor shower peaks the sky suddenly fills with clouds and it starts raining!? I swear it has happened for years where I live, almost every single meteor shower from autumn to summer!

I'm starting to think the aliens are doing it to prevent us seeing them; as in my experience there has been a much higher frequency of ufo encounters during meteor showers.

I'm joking... Kinda....

:ancientaliens:

Good news is that the skies should be clear tomorrow night so I'll still get a chance to see the shower at near-peak level. Anyone else planning on watching?

Alright so the skies are clear; I'm going to wait till it gets later; probably sometime around midnight, and then I'm gonna go light up the fire and watch the meteor shower.

Anyone else?

Holy shit!  It was either last night, or the night before my brother and I were on the stoop and a shooting star ripped across the sky, a good 5 incher.  I wonder if it was apart of what you're talking about.  I havn't seen one in years.  Given the circumstances surrounding our meeting, I took it as a good sign..

Most likely. The shower peaked last night but it's usually visible for a weak or longer in decreasing intensity the farther from the peak day.
The day before and after the peak are usually near as good; so I'm expecting to see a few goods ones tonight at least.

I see them nearly every time I star gaze. They're all over. You just have to develop a knack for spotting them.

I always watch the sky, but never have I seen anything crazy.

Especially at night, I like to try and figure out constellations.

If you want to get to know the constellations go to a show at a planetarium.

I think they have phone apps now that have you interacting with the sky and depending on where you point your phone up, it will display what's where as you move your phone around.  It's in the same style as that 360 Blue Angels video where you can look all around the cockpit and outside like you're really in there.

Shit gets pretty cool with what their pulling off on these phones now days.
