Dude they don't even do anything when a little old ladies purse gets stolen. Cops don't give a fuck about helping you. Especially helping find your weed.

If you know who did it then yes it is a good idea as you are protected under state law.

It's not very hard for a tweaker to look over a fence in an alley and see 6 foot tall plants. 
It doesn't really matter what you do, a motivated thief is usually going to get what they're after. I know for damn sure a camera isn't going to stop anyone.

A camera might not deter thieves but a mad,barking, large dog (like a German shepherd) would. One reason I am not worried about my plants getting stolen.

Well the camera is for post-robbery. The dog is for pre-robbery. Having 6 foot tall plants that anyone can easily see means you probably had it coming. So your plants were easy to see, you took no security measures, and now your shit is stolen 
I stand by my original point...stupid is as stupid does.
I still think you should call the cops. That'd be hilarious. "Officer, I had my plants in plain site with nothing protecting them. Now they are stolen and I have no clue who the perp could be. Help please?"

And more made up bullshit...
The plants were caged in, they definitely could not be accessed from the alley. And nobody could see them unless they were looking over the fence. The smell is another story though. Tweaker man used a trash can (that he brought) to jump over my front gate (which was locked) and somehow quietly got through all the shit I set up in front of the cage and then got into it and proceeded to cut down the ladies.
Keep jumping to conclusions and trying to boost your ego though. "It's your fault people steal shit."
