hyponics by scotts

I'm using hyponics by Scotts, potting soil. I've germinated 1 seed so far in it and it seems fine so far. 1" sprout after 6 days. Will that potting soil b good for the rest of my grow? I see people using all kinds of mediums, but I'm trying to keep things simple. Good enough, or switch mediums?

I used it for my first grow and it was a huge pain. Those little yellow balls in there are full of ferts that will probably lead to nute burn, and it was packed full of gnats right from the store.

Your best bet is the tried and true, Fox Farms' Ocean Forest. Great soil.

Also, do I need to mix perlite with the fox farms soil?

You won't need to mix anything with fox farm.. its literally made for growing weed...

"Hyponex" is some of the worst soil you can possibly find although also the cheapest...
It weighs a TON,
Water runs..over it...
Roots can't move through it

Those little balls won't give you nute burn. tho... they're slow release over time.

If you do a side by side with the hyponex junk and fox farm, you'll notice your hyponex plant is like a little mini bonsai thing (since the roots can't run right)

I like the fox farm "coco loco"
If you use that, your plants will be doing jumping jacks for you!  Highly recommended!

One of the dumbest things I've done all year was try that pro mix... I saved a whopping 6 bucks haha & my plants really bummed in that garbage... its like pure peat... terrible shit... stays moist foreverrrrr. Avoid this.

So if I use the coco loco, will I have to do anything different since its not soil?

The one plant I have started is in that hyponix, when I move to main container, would I b able to put it in the coir? Or is she pretty much doomed? Only an inch tall, but she looks very healthy so far.

The hyponex just seems to stall plants since its so dense... its like using topsoil from your yard.
Your plant certainly isn't "doomed" and a transplant won't hurt it at all.

I'm not sure wha you mean about the coco loco not being soil. it is soil, and quite complex of a mix at that...  it just has coir in it, its not only coir. Surprisingly you can use just coir and have healthy looking plants with minor nutrient additions along the way...
Straight coir might surprise you, although that's another story

The point is, anything by fox farm is a sure bet I'd say

Rev. Now I have done this,You can wash all that shit off the roots and put it in what ever you want. It will stress it a little but in the long run . It will recover faster in good soil then it will just start to blow up !

You know mine were small, the bigger they are the harder its going to be,and on them.
What I did was take bucket with room temp. water and dipped the roots in and kinda played with the roots with out breaking any. Once thats cleaned off just repot. water and done. Then you wait.

Yeah she's in her final pot, with roots organic soil, and she's getting very fat and bushy. Not growing much height yet, but definitely healthy. I cut back on watering as suggested in another thread. Will post some pics later today after work.
