Aren't you inhaling the smoke from the wood as well?

Not really. It burns kinda slow so you don't get the smoke from it.

I did that once when I was really desperate at a BBQ and we didn't have a lighter but had a propane grill.

It wasn't bad, but I didn't notice much of a difference from a lighter.

pizzeria get yourself some bee line bud! That I can tell makes a big difference, at least with hash and kief.

Why should that mean it isn't real?

If you want true taste you use a magnifying glass to lite the smoke.

 I did that once and only once. I read it years later in the canabible and laughed my ass off 'cause I thought I was the only one to think of it.

We used a wicked strong laser once too.

That's what I was thinking at first too.......Then I remembered I did this like 6 years ago. I didn't use bamboo shish kebab sticks, what I used was the left over sticks from burnt incense which are made of bamboo. The flame/taste was actually clean, no woody-ness or hint of incense flavor.

The temperature of a flame from a burning wood match, hemp-wicks, or a small burning bamboo stick in this case, tends to be considerably cooler than a flame from a butane/bic lighter. Using a cooler flame to smoke will usually give better flavor, and not roast away the terps & goodies as quickly.

The reason I initially did this was the classic situation I'm sure we've all been through at one point or another...I was getting ready to have a late night smoke a bit before bed and realized my lighter was done-ski. Too content & cozy to go out on a late night mission just for a lighter but too determined to toke...I lit an incense stick from the coil of an electric stove then lit a candle to re-light the sticks when needed. I went about my smoking like that until I ran out of the incense sticks I had accumulated.

Like Magash said though...using a magnifying glass, solar toking, is the way to go. I've been meaning to get a magnifying glass for this very reason. I like how you can dial-in the intensity of the heat, watching the trichs melt and inhaling all that tasty vapor-y goodness.
