Recommend any good horror films?

Been watching lots lately but nothing seems to creep me out in any way shape or form. Lesson learned is don't trust any of those retards on Imdb who give exceptionally high ratings to piece of shit films.
So I turn to the Growery...any suggestions?

The girl knows her horror. The 2nd one didn't grab me like the first, but VHS is a winner for sure. Instead of explanations I'll just list some for you.
Grave Encounters (boring, still a few scary spots) Evil Dead (1-3 and the remake) Dagon (more fantasy than horror, Lovecraft story)
Shit I am drawing a huge blank......to be honest I have not liked most of the newer horror movies that has come out. REC is another good one. Ginger Snaps (1-3, picture 80's teen movie mixed with werewolves.) Maximum Overdrive (scifi I think) Of course you got the exorcist, but I would think everybody has seen that.lol
I am really too high to be thinking of stuff.lol
There are a few comedy horror movies with some of the cast from Devils rejects. One is about a town that still lives in the confederacy. That one is fucking hilarious. I believe it is The south will rise again...maybe...just search Otis (cant remember his real name) from the devil's rejects and you will stumble upon it.
Also has the mom from Detroit Rock City in it, she's also the teacher from the original Nightmare on Elm street.
If I think of more I will post them for you. Cant think straight right now.lol

The only films that i still find somewhat scary is Pet Sematary and the Phantasm movies.
Nothin like getting high as fuck and indulging in some occassional frights.

There was an old movie called Suspiria, I think, that scared the hell out of me when I was little.
I always liked the Prophecy movies (first 3), but idk if you can really call them horror or not. Hell my son is named after Christopher Walken's character in the prophecy.lol. Walken is the shit.
The 2nd pet sematary movie was fucking awesome. I wanted a dirt bike just because of that movie.lol.

The human centipede movies are scary enough. More disturbing than scary. I can never get the image of that pregnant chick stomping her fetus in under a gas pedal out of my head.
Plus anything to do with the shitting. Just fucked up.

Lol i thought the first Human Centipede was lame as hell. Just non-stop crying. Haven't seen the second though.
Now that i think about it, there's pretty good bone chilling movies like Eraserhead, Antichrist, Begotten, Men Behind the Sun, and Cannibal Holocaust. I can't believe i forgot about those. If you want some shit stuck in your head for years afterward then check em out.

I have heard of only one of those. Are they demented horror or good ole' horror?lol.
I used to love the shit out of gory as fuck movies. I was like 14 when Cradle Of Fear came out and I loved cradle of filth. That shit was gory as hell when I was younger but now its laughable. Now I can respect a movie that can scare the hell out of me and not even have to show the blood and guts.
I loved paranormal activity when it first came out because of the fact it was scary and not gory. But now the whole franchise has gone downhill IMO. The Marked Ones was horrible. Few scares and an ok cast.
KNB effects has done pretty much any movie I have ever loved.lol. Tom Savini worked on a lot of classic horror movies. If the makeup and effects suck then a gory movie is just a pain to watch. Nicotero and them even do walking dead. Some of the best makeup and effects I have seen in film.

Hostel was a rare movie where they really knew how to use the gore. I get a rise in my levis everytime I see that chick bathing in blood.lol. The 2nd one wasn't bad either. I haven't seen the 4th yet, but don't see me running to Netflix to watch it any time soon.

It had a great story to it, but it seemed like they threw out the story and just focused on fucking with the audience and grossing them out. If they had built more of a story and focused less on the "creature/humans" then I think it could have been a really cool movie. I get tired of seeing the same story and plot in every single fucking movie. Its always just a ride until the end. You know how it will end and you can usually even pick out who will survive in most horror movies nowadays.
Kinda why I liked VHS so much when I first seen it. It was really different and it kept me in the dark the entire time. Hell even Shaun of the Dead was different in the sense that you had no idea when you would laugh in the middle of a zombie apocalypse.lol.
But yeah, as it stands, those movies were just awful.

Identity is a good choice, I really enjoyed that one.
There's so many for me to recommend that I dont know where to start so I'll just give you the most recent one I watched...Lost Highway.
Its not really scary but very creepy and will mess with your head. Watch it on shrooms if you can, or at least stoned.

I second Dagon because I am a Lovecraft fan. I've seen it at least 29 times.
Would add the following that I watched in last couple months: Pontypool Jug Face Cabin in the Woods John Dies in the End American Mary Hellraiser Contracted American Horror Story (all 3 series, but especially 1 & 3) Hemlock Grove (series 1, not sure about series 2 yet) Ichi the Killer Tokyo Gore Police Three Extremes
-------------------- I am not a cannabis grower. I find the cannabis growers to be the most open to experimenting and sharing out of all of the different botany groups I enjoy. I frequently use the suggestions that I find to apply to own organic gardening and food production.

Word. Those Asians know how to scare the shit out of somebody. That girl is one of the most scariest monsters in horror IMO.
More suggestions:
Insidious was ok, not great but just ok. Possesion was good, but I am biased I think cause I like Matisyahu. Dale and Tucker Vs. Evil (comedy, but respectable) I 2nd Cabin in The Woods, went in thinking I would hate it, but came out happy in the end. ReAnimator (another lovecraft one)
Crayola can maybe help me out with this one. There was an awesome lovecraft movie with the same guy from Dagon in it. He was a college student and was staying in an old house as a tenant and when he would sleep at night a rat would come out and fuck with him. Turned out there was a whole nother dimension in one corner of his room. The Witch in The House or the witch in the walls, fucking rat people, shit I cant remember.
Also a movie called "Shrooms". I thought it was cool.

John Carpenter's The Thing (1982)
Awesome psychological horror. I'd say this is my favorite horror movie of all time. The effects are all done by a talented artist. Not cheesy in any way. The musical score is eerie as hell and the elements of isolation and paranoia make this movie one creepy fucker. Kurt Russell stars in it....fuggin kurt russell

The best horror movies get on a personal level with the viewer and play on our emotions. Story line is so important--in that it doesn't have to rely on in your face gruesome, creepiness or gore. That's why a movie like the Blair Witch Project is actually disturbing because we never see the witch. We build this imagine in our heads from what is given to us.

Occupant. Not to be confused with Occupants which came out later.
They guy basically develops psychosis as he waits alone in an apartment for the lease to be in his name. The ending is just gross. It was a pretty fucked up movie.

Man that's the exact reason I always give when people ask me why I like blair witch.
Fuck man, I forgot about the original Last house on the left. Also the remake to I spit on Your Grave. Fucking great. There is a second one out, but I have yet to see it. I didn't care for the remake of last house, but its another option.
The old Faces of Death 1-4 use to give me the creeps when I was younger. I almost felt like a demon or some shit was waiting to fucking kill me while I was watching those movies. From what I remember most of them were fake, but you still got a wannabe snuff-like film.lol.

You are looking for this. Most of the online Lovecraft movie databases online are incomplete, so its understandable that it may not come up on a quick search. If you liked that, then this is another similar one that is very good.

Dreams in the witch house. That's it! I haven't seen the second one. Those Lovecraft collection movies like the one you suggested are hard to get. I have seen Pickman's Dream? I think it was, but I cant find the rest. Used to be on Youtube.
Have you seen The Last Lovecraft? It was good for what it was, comedy. Kinda wish they would go big budget film on the call of cthulhu. Can you imagine seeing Cthulhu in a movie now? Shit would be epic. And not that black and white call of cthulhu either.

God I have so seen so many good horror films
I need to interweb and try to find them all. Most are Asian.
Or at least foreign.
Like one where this women's baby is possesed.
God there are sooooo many. All on netflix. I guess I'll check there
And see if they still have em. And will report back.

Elm Street 5:The Dream Child?
j/k
H.P. Lovecraft was an author who got most of his fame during his life writing for Weird Tales magazine. He wrote short stories and poem-like passages. He is the one responsible for such stories like the Call of Cthulhu, Dagon, NightGaunts, and a shit ton more. The universe he created was so expansive that by the end of his life he had other authors contributing to his world and adding to it.
This was way back in the 1920's. Just imagine Stephen King, but scarier, more demented, and a grasp on what is truly terrifying. There are so many nods to Lovecraft in so many horror films that its hard to even remember them all.
There is a movie about him called "Lovecraft:Fear of the Unknown". Check it out, it has a lot of info about his life and a lot of interviews with the directors he influenced. Fucking weird dude, but what do you expect from the guy that gave us Nyarlathotep, Azatoth, oh yeah....and the Necronomicon.
That's his most famous tie in to relevant horror movies. The book Evil Dead revolves around was actually a creation thought up by Lovecraft.
Fuck man, if you like scary shit you gotta check out some of his stories. Don't be offended by the speech though. Since it was so long ago, he uses the old-school English, so it might be kinda hard to understand. Love me some Lovecraft.

I need to interweb and try to find them all. Most are Asian.
Or at least foreign.
Like one where this women's baby is possesed.
God there are sooooo many. All on netflix. I guess I'll check there
And see if they still have em. And will report back.
Tbh I haven't seen many foreign horror films, the Asian ones seem to really hit that creepy factor. Seen some classics like The Ring, The Grudge, Ichi The Killer etc, all very well shot.
Watched 28 weeks later so thanks to whoever it was that mentioned that one, good movie. Gonna try P-O's suggestion 'Dreamcatcher' next, has an intriguing synopsis

If you've seen the grudge, watch ju-on. it's the original grudge. you're gonna have to be ok with subtitles though. asians make the best horror films. honestly americans suck at horror.

The 2nd one was kinda eh for me, but the first one ruled as far as the scares go.
I seen the US version of oldboy on Netflix, haven't watched it.
Jeepers Creepers 1 and 2 were pretty good. Nosferatu is good if you like silent film The Stuff (reminds me of airplane for some reason) Creepshow 1 and 2 The people under the stairs Tales from the Hood Wishmaster 1 -3 Darkness Falls Dead End Dead Snow (fucking killer)

I really enjoyed the first jeepers creepers although the ending was a lil cheesey never seen the sequel though...wishmaster is also a very good old school horror film.
man it seems like these days they can't create the same atmosphere as they used to, recently i watched mama & the conjouring and imo both were spoiled because of excessive use of cgi and typical 'hollywood' storyline. blair witch shits on both and its budget was a fraction of the cost.

You are right man. I think that's why I never get excited for new scary movies. I thought the conjuring would have been pretty good, but at the end of it I was left disappointed. Mama sucked. That seems like everyone's problem solver with movies now. Throw a bunch of money at it until its good. No creativity.

Have you seen The Last Lovecraft? It was good for what it was, comedy. Kinda wish they would go big budget film on the call of cthulhu. Can you imagine seeing Cthulhu in a movie now? Shit would be epic. And not that black and white call of cthulhu either.
I saw The Last Lovecraft. It was fun for the humor on mythos mix. A year or two ago one of the major studios was going to do a big budget At The Mountains of Madness, which is my all time favorite Lovecraft story. I was pretty excited, but then it got tabled. Some people claim The Thing was a partial rip off of the story, but IMO way different.
Agreed a big cut of CoC would be awesome. Saw the new Godzilla a few weeks ago and he was immense. I was thinking that modern magic and writing styles could easily capture the look and feel of a Cthulhu encounter. Go full balls with real psychotic shit happening.

Word. What was the movie with the guy from Jurassic Park? Wasn't it Mouth of madness take? I remember hearing about the one you are talking about. I wondered why nothing ever came of it. Besides the stuart Gordon films and the ones Ezra Godin(?) were in, the other really awesome and close-to-the-story movie was the one with Vincent Price.....The Dunwich Horror I think.
Been dying to see Godzilla, probably have to wait for Netflix or Bluray.
Cool someone else likes Lovecraft. Whats your favorite old one? Think I got that right. Mine, besides Cthulhu, is Nyarlathotep and Azatoth. On a side note, How in the hell do you actually say Cthulhu?

Cannibal Holocaust (shame about the real animal killings, I'm not into that shit)
Is that the movie that was supposedly a real documentary filmed with tribes that still practiced cannibalism? One day when the kids are gone, I'm gonna check that movie out. I fucked up and watched the New Elm street when my daughter was up. The part in the library where "freddy" turns around real quick came on when she walked in the living room and scared her to death. Poor thing cried for like 10 minutes.lol
My wife has a deathly fear of clowns, so this morning I grabbed a clown mask and put it on while she was asleep and layed back in bed with her. I started rubbing her back and tickling her neck to wake her up.
Backfired, I got my nose bloodied. She knocked the shit out of me when she turned around and opened her eyes.lol. I deserved it, but at least I scared the fuck out of her. She screamed bloody murder.lol.

Yeah, that's the one. It was banned in a few countries for a while and the director was actually taken to court cos the cannibal killings looked so real, that was when he admitted to the real animal deaths like the big turtle that met its end with a knife being plunged into its body. Apparently there's an edited version with the animal deaths cut out...apart from those shitty scenes it's actually a very well done movie for its time & has great soundtrack!

No idea how Lovecraft intended for Cthulhu to be said. There is a lot of debate online. I use the generic white boy saying - ka-thoo-loo
Nyarlathotep is my favorite, probably more so than Cthulhu. I like the way it is has supposedly interwoven itself into so many religions and cultures. I am pretty sure that Lovecraft got the idea for him from The King in Yellow, written by Robert Chambers. Lovecraft cites Chambers as an influence in general. Read his stuff and you can see where Lovecraft could have picked up a lot of techniques for building atmosphere and mystery. I bet if you gave someone The King in Yellow and told them it was Lovecraft they would have a hard time telling the difference, especially on that specific story.
Donald Tyson wrote a book called Necronomicon that follows the journeys of the mad arab. There is no attempt to pass it off as non-fiction and is not written in Lovecraft style, but it does make great use of horror and the mythos. The "magical texts" written by Tyson are complete airy-fairy shit, not worth the money even to most Mythos fans.

I actually have Necronomicon, Alhazerad, and The 13 grimoires. I agree, the magical texts are kinda ridiculous, but I loved the actual story. He did a good job reviving my interest after so long with not much going on. Before that all I had besides Lovecraft was an Hr Giger art book and The Simon Necronomicon.
