Automatic Watering
    #739290 -

Hello everyone I'm looking for some ideas of how to keep my plants watered while away. I have two plants going as of now. One I'm not worried about because it is large and the soil has such bad drainage that it will stay moist enough.

My main concern is my small plant. It is very young and is in a mix of 85% FFOF 15% perlite. This soil mix dries out very quickly. The pot that this plant is in is not within 200 ft. At least of a water source. I am worried that my plant will dry out and die. Does anyone have any ideas or designs on an auto watering setup for my baby? Or should I just wing it and put the lid cover on the bottom and hope for the best? Thanks everyone :sun:

Im gonna be gone a week and plan on using drip hoses. They also sell individual reservoirs that sit on the outside of the pot and.waters it at whatever time you set it to. Using verm or coir also helps too.

I'm going to put some mulch on top as well. Will the drip hose run constantly or will that be set to a time as well?

Will you be attaching it to a resevoir somehow or are you going to use a faucet?

Anyone tried these? My mom uses them for her house plants and loves them. I wouldnt use often but for a short period of time they may help.

could probably use an upside down 2 liter bottle to do the same thing as those glass things. I know I've seen those around, but didn't realize they had water in them

I like the two liter bottle idea but remember it only for short term use. It will over water the plant.

I bought an irrigation kit from lowes and put a faucet on a 55 gallon drum. I have elevated the drum to where the system is gravity fed and they even make a timer for the kit I purchased so that you can have your drip irrigation on a schedule.

When I was a kid I was lazy. I just used a big water jug with pin holes. I was only gone for a week and it worked so don't knock it.
