I just learned about these lifestraw personal water filters. Seems pretty cool for camping and hiking. You can drink outta any pond and it filters 99.999% . Handy to have if your hiking and you run outta water.
Quote:
Lifestraw Water Filter (filters 264 gallons). The filters up to 1000 liters of contaminated water WITHOUT iodine, chlorine, or other chemicals (or about 264 gallons). LifeStraw contains no chemicals or iodinated resin, no batteries and no moving parts to break or wear out. According to the manufacturer, "LifeStraw filters to 0.2 microns through the use of hollow-fiber membranes, which are small tubes with even smaller pores. These pores allow water to pass, but prevent contaminants larger than 0.2 microns from flowing through. As you get closer to 264 gallons (1,000 liters), the pores will eventually become clogged with debris and the flow will stop."

Ya exactly I'll take mine hiking and camping, but otherwise its gonna stay in my bug out bag too. Drawde actually gave me the idea to start making a bag, and helped give me ideas of what stuff to put in there. Hes a knowledgeable dude. I just recently ordered a tactical bag with water bladder (3L). I got lots of shit in it now.

How long do they last? 1000 liters...but how long does the filter last until its used? Or once used? Like, does it start to degrade and continue if you use it or not?

I see that shelf life 5 years...but how about if I just never use it and keep it stored? Thats my question I guess haha :P I don't plan on a crazy apocalypse in the next 5 years, everything I keep in my bag has a more or less infinite shelf life. I don't like to have to remember to replace things, ya know?

Most likely. Fiber membranes are pretty stable chemically.

I actually saw that episode of Survivorman the other night (the picture you posted first of him drinking out of the turtle terd pond), and had never heard of it before either
But that shit is rad and would definitely come in handy for any bugout bag or backpacking trip. Having to always boil water to purify water can be a pain
Man, I cant wait to get out and do some camping, backpacking, and fishing when it gets a bit warmer. Hopefully by Mid-March

I mean the picture in OP isn't of Survivorman, if that's what you meant. You are correct he used one in a newer show on an island in Granada.
