Growery Up and Running (nearly)
    #705750 - 01/09/14 08:12 AM (10 years, 2 months ago)

I promised myself I'd turn my aquarium into either a growery or a terrarium,  but I'd really like to grow something that I can harvest something from.

Any ideas some plants I can grow and harvest things from? Can't grow weed im afraid, anything else is pretty much okay, including poppies but that may be awkward.

Here's a pic. Theres a light, heater and a substrate to be added yet.

Ideas on plants I can harvest?

its a pretty small space to grow anything and it might get too hot with aluminum foil. best choice is easy growing herbs . mint is especially easy. if your looking to grow ethnos  maybe try some small cacti or kanna read up on them and look at pictures to give you a idea if you have the space. remember small pot = small plant. good luck!

Went off the idea of poppies now, just ordered a shit load of lemon balm, pepper mint and spear mint seeds. Cant wait to sew them and begin to harvest them. Theres a lot of seeds to so I'll keep a nice rotation going in a few other pots. At least I can get more of a usage out of any harvest I make in the future

Good luck.

I hear poppies are a pain to grow indoors.

mushrooms ftw.

But enclosed terrariums suck imo. SGFC is much more efficient.

Its just that fuckin complicated dude, to me anyways, I want to eventually but this things way too small for any of that. If you could PM me a brief overview of cannabis cultivation that'd be much appreciated dude.

Im just learning the ropes with mushrooms too, although I am getting much more educated in cultivating them. Would be able to fit a shit load in there too.

PS . Without the heater the growery, when enclosed, is around 22 degrees Celsius. The top can be removed too.

Add some sand and giant rocks with a desert backdrop, then throw peyote or other likewise buttoned cacti inside.  :sunny:

I wouldn't have the patience to grow peyote. Let alone indoors.

Just a quick update for ya.

Some nice little lemon balm seedlings coming through, 5 in total,  but no sign of any spearmint or peppermint!

EDIT - There is currently 5 seedlings, there was only 2 or 3 when the photo was taken.

Foil is a no no when it comes to growing. They tend to have hot spots.

:whathesaid:  also you might want to take it all out and start over. there is no drainage so you want to add gravel/rocks/carbon on the bottom than add the soil on top of that so your soil doesnt stay wet 24/7 and you dont get root rot.

I thought you'd have trouble with the lack of fresh oxygen considering that it's pretty much an enclosed space. How do you vent or fan it? I've attempted to grown carnivorous plants inside before, but ended up chucking the idea of growing them in a tank fairly early on as it became clear the plants were suffering as a result of low oxygen levels.

Not a lot, all I do is leave a hatch open at the top, that'll explain the slow growth.

Okay, I have just installed a small fan to keep the air circulating.  I plan on letting the seedlings get a bit taller, maybe about 2 inches tall and then potting them
